GPS not found by software.

I have:

-Macbook pro running Sierra 10.12.03

-Safari Version 10.0.3 (12602.4.8)

-GPS60CSX

This worked super well together for a couple of years, no problems.

Now, when I select "Send to my GPS" the software cannot find it. The "Find my Device" tab is greyed out, not selectable.

I did as recommended to "download and install the latest plugin," to no avail.

The plugin website finds my device and I get an audible indication from the device when I plug it into my laptop.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

I am using my iphone in the meantime but would prefer my GPS.

Thanks for the help

What should be pretty easy is to deal with by clicking the Download GPX button that is right next to the Send to My GPS button you are already clicking. The file will be saved to your Downloads directory. Just copy/paste or drag the downloaded GPX file to the Garmin device that your Mac should show in Finder and then the Garmin / GPX subdirectory on that device. That's what the Send to My GPS did for you.

I have found a simple work-around:

I have tried a few of the more complicated solution with no success . . . very likely user issue... ^_^) I tried just changing my browser from Safari 10.0.3 to Firefox 51.0.1 (64-bit) and everything is working just fine.

My thought is that when I updated the OS to Sierra 10.12.3, (the only change I made to the system) the plug-in (even the updated one) stopped seeing my device.

From a strictly operating system: The laptop does see the GPS through the USB port.

For now "Send to my GPS", opened with the Firefox browser is working just fine!

But that's not a great solution in the long run. The Garmin Communicator plugin is built on an old and insecure platform and could be used by those with malicious intent to gain access to your machine, or personal data, etc.

Plus, send to GPS isn't an efficient way to load geocaches onto your GPS. I recommend using Pocket Queries and/or a cache management software (iCaching for mac) to load caches onto your GPS and keep them updated.

Edit: I just realized you're using a really old GPS. Double check that it's compatible with iCaching if you decide to go that route. GPX from geocaching.com are best suited for GPS models with paperless caching. They do work with your GPS, but you don't get all the benefits of paperless caching.

Off topic a bit (advice for everyone):

Vague and misleading thread titles and subtitles are a pet peeve of mine. In this case, terminology may be the culprit. But when you say "GPS not found by software," that is technically interpreted that all programs won't read your GPS. Be specific about what software you refer. In this case, I'm pretty sure if you opened up Basecamp, it would recognize your GPS. The Garmin Communicator Plugin is different than a standalone software application.

"Geocaching app no longer sees my device." The Geocaching app never communicated with handheld GPS. App is the common term for software applications written for mobile devices. When I first read this, I thought maybe you were using the iPhone or Android app and it wasn't utilizing the GPS chip in your phone, which doesn't even make sense regarding the title of the thread.

Since not everyone reads every thread, you're likely to attract the best responses if your thread titles and subtitles are accurate and relevant to your question or problem.
