Cachly to replace Classic app

Recommended Posts

I have given up on the Geocaching app and now use Cachly with only one question. When navigating to a cache it is impossible to have the map hold in a navigation mode, arrow pointing straight ahead to the cache. Any time I touch the screen it reverts back to a map orientation, north at the top of the screen. This is a pain at best.

It appears that if I were to be in compass mode that will remain n a navigation mode. Is that the answer or am I missing something?

I have noticed the compass frequently asks for a calibration when using Cachly. Why is that if i have not moved some distance from my last caching experience?

Here are some considerations.

If the iPhone detects a wild change in the compass sensors, that's when it may call for a calibration. You can usually perform this with a quick flip of the wrist ("figure of eight" calibration) rather than play the ball in the circle game.

Do you have magnetic clasps anywhere near you? Metal objects? That's what confuses iPhone. But it pops up the compass calibration mostly when the compass is being used.

Have you tried double tapping the arrow icon at the lower right corner of the map? That works for me.

Yes the double tap will put the map in navigation mode but any touching of the map after that and it reverts back to map mode requiring constant attention to hold it in navigation.

For anyone looking in the forums here, the response posted in the Cachly forums:

How it currently works is how the default is for iOS. This is the same as how the Apple Maps application works.

I do however realize it is a pain for users. It isn't a quick and easy fix on our end and is something that we have to develop our own solution for, but we will be working on getting this done in an upcoming version.

iOS determines when that will appear. You can disable it in Cachly's settings.

As cerberus1 says, the Cachly forums are the place to be.
