aslak.dirdal
Some geocaches does not show. It is was the closest cache to my location and not a premium cache. I'm considering buying the paid version of the iPhone app, but not unless I know that it will work on that version. Example of cache that does not show on my iPhone: Brattaberga - GC424ZY Edited April 19, 2014 by aslak.dirdal Quote Link to comment

I'm considering buying the paid version of the iPhone app, but not unless I know that will solve the problem. Example of cache that does not show on my iPhone: Brattaberga - GC424ZY The Intro App shows a small number of nearby caches at random, caches "suitable for beginners". The paid App will show all caches that you might see on the web site itself. If you decide to buy the paid Geocaching App, go back to the App store to buy it. Do NOT buy the in-app purchase "Premium upgrade" from within the App, that's not for upgrading the free Intro App to the paid version. There are benefits to the "Premium upgrade", but that's a separate discussion. Edited April 19, 2014 by kunarion Quote Link to comment

aslak.dirdal
Hi, thanks for the quick reply, but are you sure this is correct. Is it an assumption, or based on facts? 1. I have turned of Beginner Mode in the app. 2. It is not by random, it is always the same one not showing up. And it is not only on my phone. /Aslak Quote Link to comment

It's not really a beginners cache. Just checked. Shows OK on my phone with the full app. Quote Link to comment
+kunarion
2. It is not by random, it is always the same one not showing up. And it is not only on my phone. The caches are selected by some kind of formula, it's not "random" where you could try a new random set and eventually find all caches. It's an Intro App, and as with many Intro Apps, once you've tested it, you're done. Quote Link to comment
+Chief301
The intro app doesn't exactly "randomly" select caches, it selects caches that are suitable for beginners (low terrain/difficulty ratings). The caches you aren't seeing don't fit the criteria. With the full app you see all the caches (except for Premium Member Only caches, unless you're also a Premium member) Quote Link to comment
+NanCycle
This discussion has raised a number of questions in my mind: 1) The intro app has a "beginner mode" that can be turned off? What are the differences between "beginner mode" and "not beginner mode" in the intro app? Does the app then select more difficult caches? I envision losing the canned log in favor of a statement like "Now that you aren't a beginner, it's time for you to start writing your own logs." 2) It seems that the "suitable for beginners" definition used by the app is not the same as the definition of "Beginner Caches" used on the web, specifically micros are excluded by the web definition but seem to be included in the app definition. Any insights here? 3) Is the ability to use the app by a Not Validated Member limited to the Intro app, or does the possibility of NVM carry over into the paid app as well? Quote Link to comment
+The A-Team
3) Is the ability to use the app by a Not Validated Member limited to the Intro app, or does the possibility of NVM carry over into the paid app as well? I was curious about this myself, so I just did a test. I logged out of the full app and was then given the option to create a new account (below the Facebook and Geocaching.com login buttons). I plugged in a new username ("The A-Team NVM", if you're curious), gave it a password, and put in a bogus email address ("fake1@fake.com", because "fake@fake.com" was already taken!). After clicking the submit button, I was logged into the app with the new account and can happily view, navigate to, and log any non-PMO cache to my anonymous-heart's content. This gaping loophole needs to be closed. I received several more logs over the weekend from NVMs. Quote Link to comment
