How do I get a geocache code?

Hi, I was just wondering how I can get a code for my geocache. Do I get it after I've put down where it is I want to hide my geocache and everything on the form is completed?

You have to fill in the "Hide a geocache" form.

The cache container needs to be in place before you check the box to submit for review.

You can do everything else and get your GC number without finally submitting.

The Geocache code will be available once all the steps BC & MsKitty stated are completed. When you get to the end, it will show you a preview of the cache form before you click "Send to Review". You don't have to send it to review unless you're ready for others to find it. If you just want the GC or Geocache Code, it will be on the top right of the cache page listed in big bold letters GC followed by a random set of numbers and letters. You can type the GC code directly into Google and your geocache might pop up, depending on how long the code was created and/or if it has been published.

Unusual that a few people now have asked about placing a cache, yet haven't found any.

We didn't feel comfortable about it until we had around a hundred finds.

@cerberus1 I have checked, and there are no geocaches in my suburb; and the area that I live is like a geocache desert. So I want to start a trend to let others in my area join in as well. Being a student, it might be a while before I can find my first geocache haha. But I'm still looking forward to that day

In this page, Hiding a Geocache , from Geocaching 101, it says, "Whatever the container, make sure to clearly identify your cache as a geocache. Most geocachers mark the cache container with the words "Official Geocache," the name of the cache, and appropriate contact information. The more information you can provide, the better".

 

- And they also say..."Before considering your first geocache hide, we suggest that you find a variety of caches in your area. Seeing caches in a variety of locations, in different containers and hidden by a variety of users will help you understand what makes a great cache hide. This makes it more likely that you too will hide an interesting cache that everyone will enjoy!"

As a student will you be in the area during the full year? Will you be able to address any issues with your cache in a timely fashion?

Yeah, perhaps I'll ask my friend about her opinion. Shes found a few.

That's good news. Sounds like you're on the right track. You are fortunate to have a cache-less location. It means it should be easy to find a nice location to bring people to that highlights an interesting part of your town. I highly recommend that you impress people with your first find by planting a quality watertight container. An authentic Lock & Lock (not the knock off dollar store kind) is your best choice. If you can get an ammo can you will definitely impress people and keep the contents dry. Hide something swag size so you appeal to the majority of cachers. Also learn how to take multiple readings and average your coordinates. Check on your cache occasionally to make sure it's in good shape and the area is still in good shape. Do not abandon the cache and cache listing. If you get bored with the game, archive your cache listing and retrieve your cache (geolitter gives geocaching a bad name).
