+ChrisD67
I know there was a similar thread to this recently, but I don't think an answer was ever given! How do I delete caches from my Etrex 10 that are in the 'found' area and also how do I delete any caches I decide not to look for?? Any help would be much appreciated, still lots to learn, but loving every second of it. Thanks Quote Link to comment
+Team Taran
I don't have an Etrex 10. If it were me I would check the owner's manual. On my older model Garmin this was a menu item accessed from the waypoints page. Some of the newer ones show up as a hard drive when plugged into the computer and you can delete them in the same way you would delete other content from a drive. Hope this helps. +ChrisD67
Thanks, but unfortuntately these days you don't get a user manual as such, just have to read it all on line, and the detail on geocaching is just about non-existant!! I have managed to delete them by writing down the cache code, then plugging in to my PC and deleting from the list, but I can't find an area which just shows the found items? Can anyone with a Etrex 10 help?? thanks Quote Link to comment

Can anyone with a Etrex 10 help?? thanks An aside first: You have a copy of the manual on your GPS, but you are correct: it is almost useless. It sounds like you are loading caches one by one into your GPS. You really should look at using pocket queries (PQ) since you are a premium member. When you send caches to your GPS caches are contained in a GPX file. If you you send them one at a time, then you need to manually delete them and that is done by connecting the device to your computer and manually deleting the files. If you use a PQ you will have up to 1000 caches in a single GPX file. In this case there is no way and more importantly, no need, to remove caches that have been flagged as found. And note that "Found" is a cache attribute, they are flagged as such not moved to a special area. Indeed they can't be since they are part of a large single file in most cases. You have a modern GPS that supports paperless caching and are using a sophisticated web site that allows you to create very useful filtered lists of geocaches. As you learn how the two can work together you will really benefit from the combination and get more enjoyment from your GPS. Here is a very simple plan that you might want to consider. Design a PQ that locates caches that interest you. Have the cache run every week on the same day. As you are caching, mark the caches found in the GPS and if you want, add a short field note in the GPS. After caching, and before you download the next iteration of your PQ, log on to the web site and tell it to get your field notes. Use the notes to complete your online logs of the found caches. Then download the new PQ after it runs and replace the GPX and waypoint files on the GPS with the newer versions. This way you will have the latest info on caches (new logs and newly placed caches) and your found caches will not be in the new PQ. (There is a PQ option to skip caches you have found.) There is probably a lot of new things in the above simple plan, so just take them a step at a time. The most important thing is to enjoy caching! Good luck. Quote Link to comment
+ChrisD67
Thanks so much for your help, I will enjoy trying out all these options, it seems quite alot to get my head around at first, but each time I learn something new and its all makes sense, it is just so much easier going paperless. Thanks again Quote Link to comment
+eusty
Read this as it explains about PQ's Edited February 19, 2012 by eusty Quote Link to comment
merlin&willow
1. Connect device to your pc 2. Go to 'My Computer' 3. Click on 'Garmin' 4. Click on 'Garmin File' 5. Click on 'GPX File' 6. Highlight 'GC code' you wish to delete 7. Right click. 8. Select Delete 9. Follow above steps until all GC codes are deleted which are no-longer required. I know this is a faff, but if you put them on individually, you have to delete them individually. Hope this helps. Quote Link to comment

Can anyone with a Etrex 10 help?? thanks I have the etrex 30, I'm sure the OS is the same. For one at a time, go to the GeoCache icon on the etrex home screen. This would take you to the list of not-yet-found caches. Click the menu button and select Show Found. This will be all your found caches. Open one, select Menu and Delete. There might also be an option to Delete All if you hit the menu button while the Show Found list is displayed. Personally, I prefer to do all this from within Garmin's BaseCamp software but on occasion I delete directly from the device. Quote Link to comment
+Harry Dolphin
Another good reason for using GSAK. I upload my PQs into GSAK. Delete the caches I'm not interested in (such as currently unavailable). Create a GPS file. Use Garmin POI Loader. First step is 'Delete all POIs' on the GPS. Then load a new set of POIs. Worked nicely on the Vista HCx. Works nicely on the Etrex 30. Quote Link to comment

Agree that the online manual is hopeless. I learnt by trial and error! I use the Garmin Base Camp software, downloaded for free from the Garmin website. Once uploaded it is possible to delete all found caches in one go (by selecting them whilst holding down the control key) They are shown by an open treasure chest. +Straight-Cache-Homey
We recently learned how to do this on our eTrex 20. We were keeping all the caches we had ever loaded but at some point the found/not found got screwy and caches that were listed as 'not found' we had actually found before and logged as such on the GPS. We load our caches individually now. We plan out a trip and load the caches we plan on looking for or may pass along the way. It works for us. But yea, you have to delete them as if you were deleting files from your computer. Seemed a little silly but oh well. Quote Link to comment

In the menu section on one of the pages was a way to wipe the data (Sorta like a reset) you could wipe "track data" and "waypoints" etc. Not sure if the 10 has the same setup but I would think it should be close. +Destin1970
I was looking for a way to delete some of my data on the Garmin Etrex 10. I tried for hours messing around with it. In order to delete waypoints and geocaches, you need to first plug it into the computer. Then you have to install Garmin Basecamp at http://www.garmin.com/en-US/shop/downloads/basecamp and create an account. Then you have to go to the device tab and click Then, on the side all of your data will appear. All you have to do from there is delete the data and send it back to the device. Finally, unplug the GPS. Quote Link to comment

Finally, unplug the GPS. If you're wanting to delete caches or waypoints, I find the fastest way is to just delete the relevant files from the device's file structure. In [Garmin Drive:]\Garmin\GPX, waypoints are saved into daily files (e.g. "Waypoints_25-FEB-16.gpx"). All waypoints created on that day are stored in the same file. If you don't need to keep any of the waypoints from that day, just delete the entire file. Likewise, if you want to delete all of the geocaches that were loaded from a certain file, delete that file. FYI, you don't need to create a Garmin account to use BaseCamp. Quote Link to comment
+colleda
On my Etrex 10 and 20 I can delete finds by clicking on "Where To?" then click "Recent Finds" click left side button and you get "Clear List", click again then you get a yes/no confirmation, click Yes and they're gone. Waypoints can be deleted by doing the same (or similar) from Waypoint Manager. Is this what the OP is asking? All done without logging on to a computer. BTW I usually do my updating with GSAK. +guidosupsup
I got this etrex 10 from my aunt who didn't use it often. She already had caches loaded into the GPS that are over 900 miles away from me. LOL. But since I'm never going to find them, I want to know how to delete them so they don't take so much space on my GPS. HELP! Quote Link to comment

Once it installs you should have the option to explore the GPSr like a hard drive. Look for a "GPX" folder -- that should have all the caches and waypoints your aunt set. That should be easier to sort through than deleting them one by one through the unit's interface. Quote Link to comment
+guidosupsup
I did it, and here's how for other people. If you have a computer that runs Windows 10, then this should work. 1. Plug your GPS into your computer 2. Push the power button on your GPS, and there will be a slide in the bottom right corner that says, "no new photos or videos to import, click to open the device in File Explorer." Click it. 3. While in File Explorer, click the folder that says, "Garmin" 4. Then click the folder that says, "GPS" 5. And under the folders "Current" and "Nav" there should be lots of GC codes and waypoints, you can't delete them all at once, but to delete them one at a time, just right click the name of one, and click "delete" You should be all set!
