+MersonMonkeys
Hello everyone! I am new to Geocaching (found 4 so far) and I am getting tired of my phone (battery dies and is about 80 to 150 feet off target). I have spent a good amount of time reading about GPS devices and I am thinking about getting the Garmin Oregon 650 3-Inch Worldwide Handheld. So while reading about this device I realize that this device uses another Geo site called OpenCaching.com which now has me a little confused. I would like to stay with Geocaching.com, will this GPS work with your site? And by that I mean can I download GeoCaches from Geocaching.com to this GPS and then can I do logs (with notes, pictures, etc) or does that feature set only works on OpenCache.com? I saw a lot of great features on the GPS that I liked but I want to make sure it is fully compatible with this site. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
+ChileHead
Yes, works fine with geocaching.com! Pretty much all GPSs and geocaching sites use gpx files, which you can create with pocket queries (a premium membership feature.) The site you reference is Garmin's own site, which is for the most part pretty much dead. Almost every geocacher with a Oregon 650 uses geocaching.com. Quote Link to comment
+Gitchee-Gummee
It is completely useable with geocaching.com. What you have experienced is Garmin's attempt at marketing their own "product" -- pretty much a failure at creating another caching website. There is nothing wrong with using a Garmin unit... but because of this type of marketing style, I use something else (a personal revolt directed towards corporate mentality). This unit will serve you well. Quote Link to comment
+MersonMonkeys
Thanks for the help you two. I am on a trip out of town but I will order it so I have it when I get back. I also signed up for a premium membership at this site. I tried to create a pocket query but it keeps on saying I need to agree to the user agreement before I can do anything. I click on it, I read the thing, click the checkbox, click I agree, it says it is successful, I go back to create a pocket query and it still says I need to agree to the terms. Any help on this? This sounds familiar, as I'm pretty sure I've read this same problem before. You could always try logging out and logging back in, that sometimes fixes problem, though I don't know if that fixes this one. Quote Link to comment
