Selfies

If it is voluntary, not a problem. But (the usual CYA disclaimer) check with your reviewer.

Ok, so this sounds like a "go ahead"!. I will make sure to have the approval of the reviewer. Thank you very much!

Or you could just have it in your cache description when you send it in for review. If the reviewer objects, he or she will point it out. I think it sounds like a fun project. I've found a few caches where there's a disposable camera inside and you're encouraged to snap a selfie if you feel like it. Good luck!

Thank you for your remark. The thing is having the pictures made is not enough for me. I am concerned about doing something with them, including them in a project I have in mind. Because I want to use them means I have to be careful to have the approval and the trust of those sending their picture to me.

Would asking geohunters for a selfie to build a work of art be considered "having an agenda" or trespassing individual privacy?

Is, "build a work of art" geocaching related, or a private project?

So far, replies seem to deal with a possible geocache in the works.

No finds or hides, curious what you're really looking for.

Why not just place an ad on CraigsList for folks to send selfies for your use in this project? Leave the geocaching to the Geocachers.

I can understand your frustration but Craigslist is for classified ads, it is too intentional, that's not what I am looking for. Where the project I have in mind is geocache related is in the travelling of different people to find my cache and being asked if they want to contribute to a project I am doing. The idea is to bring all these people together in one "Body" and after that to find another hiding place to show the result. Art is also about hunting and finding and mostly communicating, isn't it?

Build a work of art is a private project, but geocaching related. The idea is to bring all the people who want to participate together in one "Body" and showing the result in another cache. And maybe have a project build up from there. It is the impredictability that I like about it, and the hunting to find it. Just like a bottle thrown in the water, you don't know what wlll happen. Does this sound so geocaching unfriendly? And not fun?

I have no frustration with this, just curiosity. Why would someone with zero cache finds or hides, who signed up for an account less than two weeks ago, want to use Geocachers as volunteer subject matter.

How do you see that CraigsList users any more intentional than Geocaching.com users?

I came across Geocaching a few months ago by my nephew, who is a fan and goes out seeking for hides everywhere. And we started talking about it and I suggested instead of putting something in the cache to ask geohunters to contribute something to the contents of the cache. And as I happen to be a visual artist, doing something with that content and then putting it back in the game by creating another hide with a picture of the result. And here I am, trying to figure out if my idea can be implemented.

CraigsList doesn't have the poetry of Geocaching does it? And looking up an ad and then sending your picture feels a bit dull, not really inspiring, like in a bad film.

*giggle* the poetry of lamp post hides and film containers.

I wish you great luck, but I'm not sure this is going to work out the way you intend.

This archived cache is about the only one I know that actually sorta worked the right way.
