Kind of draw login an Earth

Hi everyone!

I'm Cherar, I'm from Barcelona and it's been two years since I'm on Geocaching. Nice to meet you! Oh! And sorry for any grammar error.

Last Saturday my Earth was published and within an hour it was logged by 5 geocachers. The problem is that the first four of them have 1 wrong answer and the fifth (but last on visiting the earth) has all of them correct.

The failed answers are very simple as they are perfectly explained on the earth description or in the message board next to the earth location.

So I don't know to who grant the FTF, to the first to visit and answering wrong or the last to visit but answering correct...?

Thanks for your help!

I guess you need to determine now what an acceptable score is. Do all five questions have to be correct? If so, what will you do next? Email those with a wrong answer and give them a chance to correct it?

If all questions must be correct, then the 5th visitor was the first to meet all requirements and is the first finder of the earthcache.

Thanks wmpastor for your ideas!

I've been reading the Earth Rules but did not find any related to the answers of the questions, I do not know if you allow 1 or more wrong answer to be valid for a found log or not.

I think I should do something as you suggest but I don't want to offend nobody too so I prefer to follow the rules.

Many thanks!

If it's clear that someone visited the location and thought about the answer then we usually send the corrected answer. We thank everyone for logging anyway and confirm the answers. To be honest, the only time we delete a lig is if we don't hear from a cacher at all even after reminding them about the answers or if it's absolutely clear the person was not there and/or didn't even read the text.

Yep, if folks get part of the answer/s wrong, but visited and made an effort, I just email Thanks for visiting, here's the correct info, you earned your smiley. I only delete a log if they don't send an email and don't respond to emails sent 5 days after, plus a follow-up.

I'd give FTF to the one person who had all the questions correct.

With my Earthcaches, as long as it seems like they visited and genuinely attempted the tasks, that's good enough for me. If there's an error, I might include a polite correction when I write back to thank them for visiting.

If everyone is getting the same thing wrong, you should make sure that your write-up isn't the cause of confusion.

Thanks for your answer GEO WALKER!

I agree with you about the FTF on an Earth, but appart of that, what would you do about that wrong answer?

Denegate them the log with a hint about what's wrong?

Thanks.

In a situation such as this I will accept their answers and supply a correct answer w/an explanation. Hey, I never got 100% on ALL of the tests I had taken...

Thanks Terratin, Dame Deco, Narcissa and Geo Walker for your answers!

I agree with you that the best way to proceed is to answer them back with the right answer and a thanks for visiting. As all of them are asking about the FTF on their logs I think that the first one is who deserves it (if I don't care about the wrong answers why would I deny him/her the FTF?).

In this case they failed different questions so I think is not about the write-up but of the rush for the FTF! :)

Thank you all for your kind help!

With regards to FTF: Should someone ever ask us that on an EC we'd probably ignore the request as EC and FTF just doesn't fit together in our opinion. I'm sure someone found the location first. If someone wants to be FTF on another cache we let them be. If a group claims FTF we let them be. If someone claims FTF on an EC we let them be. Just don't bother us with that :)

If the answer they got wrong vs the answers they got right indicates to you that they did not actually visit the site, then tell them that they need to get it right. If it's just something that someone can get wrong then don't worry about it.

I have one earthcache where every now and then I get someone obviously armchair logging it, because they get an obvious and easy answer from an incorrect internet resource instead of signage at the site. In all other cases, my questions involve some thinking, interpretation, estimation and I'm always flexible on those if the visitor has a go at them.

I officially got out of FTF recognition as a cache owner because of an earthcache, the first two finders were sniping at each other in their logs and it just made me tire of it all. Based on that, I went back and edited all the caches I could to remove FTF recognition from the descriptions, and I've not recognized anyone since. Let 'em fight it out in the logs, it's not an official part of geocaching anyway (the last Groundspeak email newsletter notwithstanding).

As with nearly all aspects of geocaching, I recognize that others play differently, and I don't really mind. Just sharing my approach.
