Garmin eTrex 25T Not Taking Maps Update

Recommended Posts

A few weeks ago I bought a Garmin eTrex 25 Touch from GoOutdoors in the UK. It appeared to have Eastern Europe Topo Active maps pre-loaded.

When I registered my product on Garmin's website, it said I was entitled to load the Western Europe Topo Active Maps (which are much more use to me!). But ever since, I have tried and failed to get the new map to load.

I've re-installed Garmin Express about 3 times, including flushing the directories inbetween as advised by Garmin. I have raised as support query with them, but so far they have not come up with a fix.

The error message which occurs is "super helpful" (see screenshot).

It's driving me mad, since the device is virtually useless as I've only got the abysmal Basemaps loaded at the moment.

ALSO, I tried loading my OSM maps which I have used successfully on my older eTrex 20 with no issues. I swapped the microSD card into the 25T and it fails on boot, saying the maps cannot be verified. Does anyone know how I could resolve this issue too? OSM is what I've been using for ages so I would be happy with that if I can't get the Topo maps on it.

Up until yesterday, I was still mainly using my eTrex 20 because of the maps problem, but then I managed to drop it - it face-planted onto tarmac and is now completely dead. So I really need to get the 25T sorted out or I won't be caching much!

Have you tried installing the maps to your computer? (Map Options)

Then try to install the maps to your gps from BaseCamp?

I don't get the option to do that with a map which isn't yet installed. I can see the option with the Eastern Europe map which is already on the GPS, but not with the Western.

I would take it back to go outdoors. I've got the 35T and it came with both the east and west Europe maps. Mine has 8 GB of main memory- does the 25T have enough space for both maps? You will need to install it on the main device and not the SD card as Garmin lock their maps to the device.

When I tried the 25T in go outdoors the western maps were installed so find it strange that yours doesn't. Get It exchanged instead of waiting for Garmin UK unless you can get them installed ok.
