hexatod
Hello. I've occasionally used pocket queries. I'd like to know if it's possible to have the hints decoded within the pocket query or do I have to manually decode each one as I view the GC? Quote Link to comment
ADKer
What do you mean by manually decode? My Garmin automatically decodes the hints. Quote Link to comment
Gitchee-Gummee
To my knowledge, the hint is already "decoded" by the unit. There is no need to "manually decode" anything. I know that it is for a Delorme, I think that it is for a Garmin also. The difference being, I believe a Garmin requires you to be actively searching for that particular cache... not so with a Delorme, you can read it at any time without being directed to the cache. EDIT to add: I hope you are aware that you must select the hint in any of the devices, including the Groundspeak apps in order to read the hint. It isn't automatically provided to you. +niraD
My apps and devices have always decoded hints, except for the ones that couldn't display the hints at all. Quote Link to comment

and1969
Hello. I've occasionally used pocket queries. I'd like to know if it's possible to have the hints decoded within the pocket query or do I have to manually decode each one as I view the GC? The hints are output to the PQ as plain text, for example <Groundspeak:encoded_hints>Base of tree</Groundspeak:encoded_hints> The tag is not semantically correct, perhaps the hints were encoded at one time or another. +hexatod
Hello Again. Thanks for the replies - I didn't know that the Garmin would decode the hint once loaded onto the unit. Thanks very much to everyone that replied. Quote Link to comment
dprovan
Just to repeat and confirm what and1969's already pointed out: the hints are already decoded in the PQ, not by each of our individual units. Quote Link to comment
