Hello All in the Gainesville, FL geocaching community! I am a new member and have zero experience with geocaching. I am the Project Manager for Alachua County School District 21st Century Community Learning Centers programs, which is an after-school grant funded program designed to help at-risk students improve in core academics through project based learning activities. One of our projects is geocaching, and our team needs help! Is there anyone who is available to volunteer to help us learn how to start geocaching activities with our elementary students? (This is pending that we win the next 5-year cycle grant award.) Thanks! Melissa Montgomery

Hi Melissa, I expect a moderator will move this to the Southeast US forum. In the meantime, I suggest that you'll do best if you post a note directly to some Gainesville area Events (an Event is listed as a Geocache, but it's a gathering of geocachers). Here are some upcoming in the Gainesville area

Good luck on the grant!

I don't know if you are on Facebook, but I've found that a good way to meet local cachers is to see if there is a Geocaching group near you on Facebook. You might check here in the Southeast forum, but since only a relatively small percentage of all Geocachers ever visit these forums, and since the percentage of folks from your locale would be significantly smaller than that, your odds of finding some locals here are pretty slim.

I only know one or two local cachers that I have ever seen on the forums. But there are 100 or so Baton Rouge area Geocachers in their Facebook group, and I have gotten to know at least half of them personally that way. Gainesville is a good sized city, see if there is a group active around there.
