Find'R
I was looking online at the different types of unique travel bug goals there are and it gave me an idea. I want to get an ammo can, attach a TB to it (either by means of epoxy, pinning, rivets, (maybe solder? not sure how a TB would react to a lot of heat)) and give it the goal to collect empty bullet casings (empty shells/casings that have been fired and are no longer usable). It would be interesting too see all the different sizes and calibers it could end up collecting. I'm sure it would be safe as long as people don't put any live (unshot) ammo in it. Any thoughts or opinions on this idea? I'm welcome to any changes to the idea.[/font] Quote Link to comment
+Wet Pancake Touring Club
I see two problems. Not with the idea itself, but with its execution. First, an ammo can is very large. There are relatively few caches out there that would be large enough to contain an ammo can. The second is that the ammo can may be mistaken for the cache. The log for the actual cache may accidentally end up in your TB, and get moved. Skye. Quote Link to comment
+fuzziebear3
It might also have trouble traveling far -- I'm sure and ammo can full of ammo is going to have a problem at airport security. Quote Link to comment
Find'R
Good points, I wouldn't mind it traveling slow, as long as it collects casings along the way. I could paint or stamp (maybe engrave) "TRAVEL BUG" on it so people don't get it confused with a cache. As for the size issue I could possibly fabricate a smaller version of an ammo can myself and use that (I love to make things and am taking a lot of welding classes in high school currently, and having something I made travel around the country (possibly world) would be very cool). +cerberus1
Not sure if you're just having fun here, or serious. So many people fear the idea of a casing in a cache, even though it's now simply a piece of brass, that it's not a popular idea. I used to put firearm manufacturers decals, and gun safety cables in caches and got hate mail. You want to create a trackable full of 'em. I believe your trackable would just disappear, probably by some hoplophobic thinking they're saving everyone else from that evil creation. Quote Link to comment
Find'R
Wow, the idea that someone would send you hate mail for giving out a piece of safety equipment is ludicrous, but I guess some people just don't understand. Getting good feedback and some stuff that I didn't think of, thank you all. Quote Link to comment
+fuzziebear3
Another thing I thought about -- people steal ammo can caches, and they steal travel bugs. Given the combination, I don't see it lasting very long. Quote Link to comment
