Leifr
I usually type out my log posts using a word processor and then paste them in when logging a cache. When I post, there's usually something I wanted to change but there's no way of previewing my posts. I know there is a time limit for editing a post but it is used up too fast. Will there ever be a preview log button? Quote Link to comment
Harry Dolphin
Yes. It it the bottom of the page. Right next to "Add Reply." Quote Link to comment
TriciaG
LOG posts, Harry - not forum posts. Quote Link to comment
cerberus1
Guess I'm not understanding. Pasting it into the log should give one plenty of time to add/correct without being timed-out. When you post a log, it gives you the "View Log" page to preview your log and (for me) is an easy place to add/correct. Then like to look at the cache page, as a JIC. I'm pretty wordy, and rarely when logging other caches have seen "edited by" when adding to the first. Those few times, if it was something important, I might copy and delete it, then paste and start anew. Quote Link to comment
Traditional Bill
The time to edit before generating the "edited" text at the bottom is pretty forgiving. I don't know exactly how long that time frame is, but I can remember having to edit a log after maybe fifteen minutes and was still able to pull it off without getting the edited stamp. So technically, you could post your log, then see it on the cache page, then immediately edit it (which I couldn't see taking more than five or ten minutes). I don't think there's really a serious need for a "preview log" feature, but it certainly wouldn't bother me if it were implemented. Quote Link to comment
TriciaG
It WOULD be useful if one bears in mind that the CO's notification email won't have any edits, no matter how quickly they're made after the log is posted. Not that I care much about grammar errors as a CO (bad grammar/spelling is better than a TFTC log any day), but if a finder wants the their edited log to get to the CO, they have to delete their found log, then re-log the find. The CO gets two notifications, but at least they get the edited log. Quote Link to comment
Pontiac_CZ
Maybe the OP wants the CO to get the perfect version of his log via e-mail... Quote Link to comment
EngPhil
The time to edit before generating the "edited" text at the bottom is pretty forgiving I think it's around 30 minutes. But, honestly, who really cares if "this log has been edited", and why???? Quote Link to comment
Viajero Perdido
But, honestly, who really cares if "this log has been edited", and why???? It's distracting, because the text suddenly switches from written-by-cacher to written-by-system without warning. Some of us care about the paragraphs we write, and don't like unwanted additions. Groundspeak does nothing to visually separate the two; making the system message smaller would make it tolerably clear. But since they simply add the system text to your own rather than outputting them separately, it's not likely to happen anytime soon. I complained about this almost a decade ago; still waiting.
