Takeo7789
Hi all, I'm pretty new to geocaching but I'm having lots of fun with it. I was interested in the achievement coins you can get, specifically those from coins and pins (I've seen the thread listing all the geocoins available). I was wondered what the criteria is to get certain ones. I see there is a 31 days of caching coin. Is this from the event that happened in August 2013 or can it be done for any 31 consecutive days from now? There's a 7 souvenirs of August coin too so I'm guessing the 31 days one refers to the August before last. Also the 365/366 days of caching I'm guessing isn't a consecutive thing but about filling up your calendar in the statistics page. I know I can just say 'well I've one 31 days of consecutive caching so I'll get the coin' but I don't want to get it if it's intended for the August challenge. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
T.D.M.22
The criteria is to buy one or have it given to you. IF you're cheating and don't have 1000 finds, or only have 5 consecutive days of caching, you're cheating yourself. If I find a coin in a cache I don't care if you really earned it. I doubt anyone else does either. Quote Link to comment
Takeo7789
That wasn't quite what I asked, I was specifically asking about the 31-days-of-caching coin referring to the August 2013 event and also whether or not the 365/366 day coins were about filling up the calendar in the stats page rather than having to be done consecutively. Thanks Quote Link to comment
ADKer
Yes, the 31 days of caching most likely refers to August 2013. The 366 day coin...could be either. It most likely refers to filling up the whole calendar (not consecutively), but it might be either. Hope this helps! Quote Link to comment
JoergWausW
I don't think the seller checks your profile or asks anyone to decide whether the coin is "earned" by you or not. The only criteria will be your payment. In the end it's the coin owner's/buyer's decision/own story what a coin stands for. @31 days: on the sellers page it doesn't say anything about August, just 31 days in a row are mentioned. If they narrowed it down to people who participated in a one-time-challenge, they'd have way less potential customers... @366 days: same thing applies here - they don't say anything about consecutive. Thanks 31 Days ... was specifically for August 2013. If you did any caching in that month, you will have a profile 'souvenir' for that specific date, indicating the date in August of 2013 when that specific badge/souvenir was earned. The coin was designed to be coordinated with THAT specific campaign on GS, but can certainly be purchased by anyone and displayed accordingly. I guess there would be 'purists' that would say you only earned it if you completed all 31 days in August 2013 ONLY. The 365/366 coins are for completing your grid, regardless of the year actually completed. It does NOT have to be for consecutive days of caching. There are even threads and comments that I won't look up that mentioned several times that 2012 was your last chance for 4 years to get the day needed for the 366 challenges and coin qualifying. Again, there is no 'monitor' for the 365 or 366 coins except yourself and your stats/souvenirs page. Just like August this year, 2014, there was the 'Achiever' challenge. Anyone could buy the tags and/or achiever coin, regardless of whether they actually finished the challenge or not. Quote Link to comment
