+Kasakato
Are you allowed to make your own geo coins? Me and my friend are getting into melting metal and pouring it into molds. Its interesting stuff. If so, how would we get a valid tracking number? Quote Link to comment
+Marky
You would need to get the design approved by Groundspeak, before they would sell you the tracking numbers. At a minimum, the design would have to include similar wording to: "trackable at geocaching.com" on the coin for it to be approved. I have not heard of anyone attempting to do this for a hand cast geocoin yet. --Marky Quote Link to comment
+AtlantaGal
Even if you decide to not make hand poured coins trackable, they're still excellent to make/place/trade. The Tiki coins are hand-poured and they're absolutely wonderful. Quote Link to comment

There are also a few sites (some free, some not) that will do offsite tracking of items, if you can't get the geocaching.com tracking worked out. Another way to go (but, obviously, more expensive) is just to attach real travelbug tags to them. We've done this on a bunch of various non-trackable geocoins. --Marky Quote Link to comment

+Team JSAM
Also if you do buy tracking numbers its a min. of 100 for 1.50 each and if you want an Icon its a min. of 500 plus 150.00 for the icon. I would agree that it would be almost better to not mess with the tracking them being handmade would make them great. Quote Link to comment

+Kasakato
Hmm. There's no other off-site place where they can be tracked? Maybe they will just be my signature type of item. Quote Link to comment
+Ryder3 & Better Half
For private tracking, check out Markys site! If you make these,we would be interested! R3 & BH Quote Link to comment

Talk to Marky (he posted earlier in this thread). He has a site where some caching swag and coin items are able to be tracked. Quote Link to comment

Most cachers I know wont pick up TB from them becasue logging is a pain in the butt. I had a problem registering with that site. I kept sending emails (at least 10 times) trying to get it fixed, but never heard back once. That's not great service for a site that charges to track things. Quote Link to comment
danoshimano
Even if it doesn't have tracking on gc.com, I would be interested in those coins. But I think you would need to promote them through one of the coin sites, because I don't think you are allowed to promote a non-gc.com trackable coin on this forum. Quote Link to comment
+chaosmanor
One possibility for hand-poured coins, if you can't afford to have them trackable on GC, is to add a small ring to the mold, such that a T-Bug chain could be looped through it. If you sold just the coins, but emphasised the loop, there are some (us, perhaps? ) who might go the extra cost and add a tag to the coin. A lot would depend upon how much you decided to charge for the coin. As for other means of tracking, you could always set up your own website for it. The code is fairly simple. I don't think it would be fair to GC (or prudent, for that matter) to go into the details here, but it can be done relatively easily. Finally, I have to agree about TravelerTags. Customer service there is, from my experience, a completely unknown concept to them. They do not reply to e-mails, except for their automated query-registry, and in several parts of their website you are refered to another part that doesn't exist. The concept is a nice-enough idea, but whoever is running it is obviously not paying any attention to it Quote Link to comment
+whitebear
I would like a hand made coin too ,sound neat! Quote Link to comment
+501_Gang
I rarely use the travelertags, so I wasn't sure how good they were. It was just a suggestion. As for tracking goes, it's nothing of importance for me. I collect the coins I like trackable or not. I really look forward to seeing the final product though. Quote Link to comment
+Kasakato
Thanks for the sites and support! I am currently making a mold and trying to master the art of pouring. Its hard (and hot) stuff! Quote Link to comment
+The Blind Acorn
Trackable or not I would be interested - the Tiki Coins are really cool and I like the uniqueness. Quote Link to comment
+graylling
Like everyone else I would be very interested in seeing what you come up with. Along with the method and materials you used to do the minting. I've considered making my own but thats an area I know so little about i'm a bit hesitant to try... Quote Link to comment
