Preforms?

We also get them where baloo&bd said. First set was awesome white caps and they had that rubber gasket inside. Just what we wanted. The second set was fine as it also had the rubber gasket inside but the caps were kind of a bright orange color that makes it a little harder to hide. Then we bought some smaller ones. Black caps and that is great but I was disappointed they didn't have the rubber gasket inside. Now that I think of it I can't guarantee we ordered the smaller ones from Educational Innovations. I have been swapping out the caps.

I've come across some that had caps with a silver foil looking gasket inside them. From my experience, these do not keep out the moisture. It's hard to tell which are which on websites sometimes so if you find ones that work, then stick with them. Be wary if the price seems too low. :o

Haven't ordered any in a while but i did have good luck getting them from the Steve Spangler Science website.

That could be quite an advantage over centrifuge vials. Are the caps different than a soda bottle cap? Could I add an O-ring to an ordinary soda bottle preform and have the same thing? If so, I'm guessing I could add an O-ring to the vials.

There are 50ml vials on ebay for 8 cents each, free shipping, by the huge box full. They can hold more stuff than the comparable preform, and at the price, cache maintenance isn't a big deal. But they're thin-walled and they crack. And they look like urine sample bottles (because they are :anicute:) and often you'll try to come up with a way to conceal the gradations.

Preforms are bullet-proof. I don't see a super sweet deal of a huge box full with with free shipping. They're 52 cents each plus shipping in the posts above. They don't hold much as a cache. The caps are soda bottle caps of course, designed to be opened and sealed once (of course the cap lasts longer than that). If it has an O-ring, that could be awesome. If instead of a normal bottle cap style, you get foil-lined or something, that would be an unpleasant surprise.

I prefer O-rings on my micros, although it seems like Micros' contents are always soaking wet regardless :anicute:.

It is kind of like a O-ring but it had that flat clear plastic over the whole top of the cap. That is how most all of the older water bottle/ soda bottles used to be. I think it is pretty water tight. Now I see they are trying to reduce the amount of plastic they use and most are smaller caps without this seal in them. The ones I got this last time were still the bigger caps but didn't have that seal on them.

Perhaps you could remove the foil and coat the inside of the cap with a thin layer of clear silicon adhesive sealant? dried it's quite similar to the rubber seal in the cap of a soda bottle.
