You don't. You'll probably have to do one (or both) of the following.

1) Log out and log back in to geocaching.com. That'll kick the system in if it doesn't recognize your PM.

2) Delete ALL caches from the GPS. If there's cache on it from before (and there was already caches on it when you bought it) the when you download caches they'll show everything. Also make sure you're downloading the whole GPX file. If you just download it as a waypoint, it won't show everything.

I ended up clearing the memory and deleting the whole shebang, then sending a few from the website. This worked, but I noticed a few problems right away.

1. I sent seven geocaches to my GPS, but only the first one "saved". I seem to recall that the first time I did this, I had the same problem. I am using a mac, and I remember using my husbands windows computer and not having any problems. Maybe it's a mac thing??

2. I had backed up the files before clearing the memory, and tried moving them back. This also worked for viewing purposes, but only the new one that saved shows the hints.

3. My files show that I have 171 caches saved in the Geocache folder, but only 155 show up on my device.

I'm going to start from scratch again, but why is it only saving the first cache I send?

And is there a way to send more than one at a time? Ideally I'd like to find a way to send the whole city...

Pocket Queries are your friend! :D

Pocket Queries are custom geocache queries that can be downloaded from the website. They are in a format you can bring along with you on cache hunts on your GPS and/or smartphone. You can select a GPX or LOC text file that works with supported software applications. You can run a Pocket Query once or set it to run automatically on a daily or weekly basis. You can run up to 10 pocket queries every 24 hour period, but each individual search can run only once per day.

See detailed instructions on creating your first Pocket Query. Learn how to use other Premium Features.

OH NO! lol I remember getting HORRIBLY confused the first time I tried to do this, and ended up just making bookmarks instead. LOL! I have no idea what it means to have them "run" once per day...

That said, I THINK I've got it! I set it for max 8OO, and figured out how to transfer the GPX file over, and it seems to be working. I can view hints and logs, but it didn't transfer the little "found it" smily faces. So according to my GPS, I haven't found a single one. That kind of sucks... but I'll take it.

Thank you for your help!!

It won't show the caches are found unless you mark them as such in your GPS. I believe it's because that status is not included in the GPX file. But you can do, is when setting up a PQ select "caches I haven't found" and it won't include the ones you found.

For choosing how often to run a PQ. When setting one up, you give ot certain parameters to search by, maybe all cache you have not found withing 10 miles. Maybe just caches with the flashlight required attribute. It's up to you. Whenever it runs, the system searches by those choices and sends you the results, wow here you can download them to your gps. You can have it run just once, say if you go to a new city and want to cache. Or have it set for every cache, and run every week. Then you can cache whenever you want, and have more up to date info(new caches, changed co'ords, whatever)

You just don't want to run it and keep it for more than a week. Caches may be moved, disabled archived, or changed spin some other way that you won't know about. So if it's been too long, you could be looking for a cache that's not even there anymore.

So if I wanted to save the entire city (because sometimes I don't know where I'm going until I get there) with all of the current information, I could run the PQ the day we go out, then sync it to my GPS right before I leave? I spoke with a friend about the happy faces, but I don't think I really care all that much. It would be easier to just delete the "city", then resave it each time I go... Right?

Unless there's another way to keep my "finds" without overwriting them... Maybe just unselect the ones I've already found? I'm still pretty new and only have 4O or so finds, so it was easy for me to organize them in their own little query or bookmark list. That said, I'm quite fond of my little GPS unit, and the happy face make me feel, well, happy. If possible, I'd like to keep them and only replace all of the other ones.
