MandyKota
I'm doing research for an article that I plan to write about GPS units. Specifically, I am looking for feedback from individuals who have experience using both phone gps and separate gps units. Questions I'd like answers to include: What are the pros and cons of each? How sharply does tree cover affect each gps type? Price range comparison? Amount of gps "bouncing" (you get to GZ and the gps bounces the point elsewhere) If this subject has been covered elsewhere, could you please provide a link? Thank you very much in advance! +The A-Team
If this subject has been covered elsewhere, could you please provide a link? This topic seems to get discussed about once a week in the forums, so there should be no shortage of previous discussions you could look through. Try searching for terms like "phone handheld" or "phone standalone" and you should get a wealth of information. Quote Link to comment

Thank you very much in advance! this will give you an idea about differences in accuracy http://www.singletracks.com/blog/gps/gps-distance-accuracy-test-smartphone-apps-vs-dedicated-gps/ the pro/ con varies wildly depending on which unit is being compared. the intended uses also add complexity to the results. lastly and most importantly personal preferences Quote Link to comment

The only problem you should find is those with their favorite (phone, or handheld GPSr), attempting to skew results. Quote Link to comment
+T.D.M.22
Just remember phone vs gps is very broad and not cut and dry. There's lots of phones better than GPS. And lots of gps better than phones. Same with prices. You can buy a gps or phone for around $100. Or more than $700. Quote Link to comment
