Help loading Garmin Oregon 600

So, just got a gps for the first time (Garmin Oregon 600). Was using iPhone app before. After a lot of head scratching - I am now able to load caches one at a time via the "Sent To GPS" button. But I would like to know if there's a way to load all caches from 500km around me? Also - VERY new to GPS, so simple step by step is REALLY needed for me. Thanks in advance. -Hide8.

All caches within 500km is a bit ambitious for someone very new to GPS. But if you wish to dive right in, first you should learn to use Pocket Queries: http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=118

You'll set up PQs for various places, most likely leaving all settings as is except for distance, number of caches, central location, and PQ name. The instructions above cover it pretty well, and there are links for how to find more info.

The resulting "GPX" files are placed onto a Garmin Oregon in the Garmin/GPX folder.

Be aware that the 600 and others will not automatically display caches beyond a certain distance from the GPSr's current location (beyond approx. 100 km).

Use Pocket Queries:

This tells me how to make a pocket query - but how do I get it onto the gps unit??

1. Download the zipped PQ from your PQ site.

2. Unzip the PQ file

3. Copy the resulting two Gpx files onto your Garmin

The path is: [Garmin Unit]:/Garmin/GPX/your_files_here

Well... copy the main GPX for sure. The second GPX ending in -waypoint.gpx is optional. Personally, I find those extra waypoints to be distracting and clutter up the screen and it's not immediately clear which geocache the waypoints belong with.
