CCCooperAgency
If any of you hear from Lucy (SBUX), please contact CCCooperAgency immediately. Tonight she did not come home. The Pennsylvania State Police found her vehicle, UNLOCKED with the key inside. There was an unsual note (not handwritten) on the windshield. The area was combed for several hours by the K-9 and helicopter search & rescue units. We did not find her body. She is not answering any emails or cell calls. PLEASE! If anyone hears from her, please contact us - we are worried sick. Link to comment
Team GPSaxophone
If I was close enough to your area, I would volunteer for the search team. I hope you're able to find her soon, and in good health. You might want to post this in your regional forum too. Link to comment
tirediron
Shouldn't this be moved to the regular forum? Hope she is found soon, safe and sound! Link to comment

The Leprechauns
I am going to move this from off-topic to the regular forum, in the hope that more people will see it that way, and that someone might know something or be in a position to help. The well-being of a geocacher is always on topic. SBUX lives in Southeastern Pennsylvania (Harrisburg/Hershey/Lancaster area). Please, especially if you are in that area, keep your eyes open until we hear the news of her safe return. Here is a good picture of this intrepid geocacher; I hope it helps. I write this with a knot in my stomach. Lucy is my friend and I'm worried sick. We had a fun time geocaching together the weekend before Christmas and I look forward to our next trip. this_is_nascar
This is extremely disturbing. My wife and I are only minutes away from heading out for our 1st caching adventure. This certainly makes one think and should serve as a reminder to be aware at all times and to never cache alone. Both of you will be in our prayers today and we'll keep our fingers crossed for the best outcome. Link to comment
CoyoteRed
Yes, very distrubing. My sincerest wish is that she is returned to her family and it was an innocent happening. I wonder if it would be appropriate if TPTB could shoot off an email to everyone who has coords or zipcodes listed in their profiles near the area and ask them to be on the alert. Kind of a Cacher's Amber Alert. Signed, Here in SC wishing for Lucy's safe return. Link to comment

wimseyguy
I wish there was something more that I could do than sit here at work and think good thoughts for you and SBUX. I have passed the news on to the Triangle group. Link to comment

Mopar
I'm not close to the area either, but if there is something we can do we'll be there for our friends. Just say the word. What did the note say? Link to comment
WCNUT & TATER
I like the Idea of the hacher's Amber Alert.... We wish we were closer to the area to help. But our thoughts and praers are with SBUX and the whole family. I called our Minister and he is starting the prayer chain to bring her home safely. Best Wishes, Wcnut & Tater Charlestown, IN Link to comment
the Tribe of Two
We are praying in Oklahoma, too. We emailed a non-caching friend in western Pennsylvania, explaining the situation and asking her to spread the story to friends and family in the region. We never send or continue chain letters of any kind, but we asked that this be sent on to as many people as possible, and asked that everyone join us in prayers for Lucy and her family. And to the new cachers who worry about their safety- Things like this can happen when leaving work, at the shopping mall, and walking in your own neighborhood. We may actually be a little safer when out caching because we are paying so much attention to what is around us. Link to comment

KC0GRN
wonder what was on the note. Wish I was close enough to be of any help, but I'll keep her in thoughts and prayers. Hopefully this has a good ending. Link to comment
wimseyguy
My wife Shadowgal just asked if anyone has contacted local media for their assistence? Can't hurt to get the word out to as many people as possible, not just the caching community. Also contacting my brother; he's a rabbi in suburban Philly. He may have some contacts that can assist. +JMBella
My thoughts and prayers are with you. I linked this topic in the Northeast forum as well. Was she going after a cache? and if so which one? Edited December 31, 2004 by JMBella Link to comment
jeff35080
I'm posting a link to this thread on the alacache.com forums. We actually have at least one person from PA who is a regular participant in our forums so maybe it will help spread the word a bit. If there is anything that any of us can do for you, please let us know! Link to comment
kiawa
Whereabouts did this occur? I'm in Erie, PA and I'm willing to drive within 5 hours of here to volunteer for any search team. I was training with a search and rescue team for awhile, so it's not unfamiliar to me. I will leave work this instant to aid in the search or do anything else I can to help. Let me know. If I can't help that way, know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and Lucy. Link to comment
kiawa
Screw 5 hours... I'm willing to drive anywhere. And I'll take anybody with me who wants to go. Email me through geocaching.com if you want to arrange something. Being someone who caches alone quite often, I find this very disturbing and will definitely re-think how I do things. Please let me know if I can help. Link to comment
orome
I can't tell her age from the picture, but there are two resources her family should not overlook: http://ncmec.org if under 18, http://missingadults.org if of legal age. I've worked with both agencies professionally for years; they know how to help. Edited December 31, 2004 by orome Link to comment
BigDaddyD
My thoughts and prayers go out for SBUX her family and friends. What is the weather like in the area. Temp, etc. May she be found safe and sound very soon! Link to comment
Tprints
My prayers are with you and your family, Lynn. I always enjoyed caching with Lucy and hope to do so again. +Spencersb
When they find her, they understandably will not be concerned about rushing to the computer to let all of us know. It'd be nice for someone close to volunteer to be the one to rush back here to post, and let them concentrate on hugs and stuff. We're all very concerned, but they won't be thinking about us when they find her, nor should they be! Link to comment
BikerMike
Has anyone done a search for caches in the immediate area where her car was found? Maybe trying to trace where she might have been heading would help. Just a thought, hope this all turns out for the best.... BikerMike That is a very, very good idea! Maybe she signed a logbook on one of the caches that can place her in the specific location at a certain time or date. If she normally carries a cell phone, maybe it could be used as a "beacon". Call the number, let it ring, listen. Move into the area, repeat. Edited December 31, 2004 by Lemon Fresh Dog Link to comment

kiawa
If her cell phone is powered on, her cell phone carrier could pinpoint its location. One would think the authorities have already done this, but it's a thought in case they haven't. Link to comment
GrizzlyJohn
I live down the highway from you all in Owings Mills. Never met you folks but having seen your logs in many of the caches in this area on some level one gets the feeling that you do get to know the person a little. This is terrible news and our thoughts and hopes go out to you and your family for a speedy and good end to this story. Of course if there is anything I can do please let me know. Link to comment

Move into the area, repeat. I'm not sure how long it takes but the police can work with the phone provider and see what towers are nearby the phone (If it's still on and within range) If she's in a city they can tringulate and get very close, if it's in the country they can at least say that she was x distance from a given point. But by the time they get through the red tape the battery may be dead. Joe Smith Link to comment
