Coffin Loggin'

Recommended Posts

So today I happened upon an Internet service called LIVESON which promises to undertake the enormously essential service of tweeting on your behalf - after you are dead!

http://liveson.org/connect.php

Apparently, Artificial Intelligence systems analyse and 'learn' your tweeting style and syntax while you are alive so that tweets you might have made can be faithfully created in your own unique style after you have shuffled off this mortal coil :o

So I got to thinking about how useful something like this could be in the caching world - and I think it lends itself beautifully to armchair logging - and I thought I might do a bit of market research here to gauge demand for such a service, do some financial projections etc. :D

No need to trust your precious armchair logs to some hackneyed so-called-artificially-intelligent script - for a small fee I will undertake a detailed study of your chosen armchair logging style - all your preferences for cache size, type, D/T rating etc. - whether you're a puzzle fan, a powertrail fan, high terrain - what have you. Heck I'll even suss out if you were working toward qualifying for any challenge caches and finish them up for you - can't say fairer than that - can I? B)

I'll then post logs at regular intervals, faithfully replicating your regular logging style - be that . logs, TFTC's to full blown log+note epics (although that level of detail may cost a little more) until the money runs out.

A detailed market research survey would take time to draft, complete and analyse, and would interrupt the natural flow of creativity - so I'll simply leave it open and ask - what do you think - could this be the next big Internet money spinner? :)

Less than an hour ago, I learned of the untimely death last night of a fellow Volunteer Cache Reviewer. He was beloved in his home community.

It makes you stop and think about the geocaching legacy that you will leave. I hope that mine is better than "he kept right on logging armchair finds."

OK, I think the thread has lost all its humor content :(

Or, if I don't armchair log when I'm alive, why should I do so after I'm dead?

Yeah. "He kept his streak alive." Much better.

Sorry to hear about the loss. I cache in your area. Was it one of the reviews around here?

No. It is no one who you would have known.

It is sad when any awesome geocacher leaves us, regardless of whether one knew them personally. Their legacy LIVESON with a legacy of photo galleries, forum and social media posts, cache stats, and thousands of memories held close by friends met along the trail and at events.

Thread derailed in 10 minutes flat. Must be a record.

I'll see if we can get back on-topic.

Sure, you can sign me up for your service...

...over my dead body.

I guess I'm a big twitterer. I have 3,863 tweets, and apparently I joined July 1st, 2009. I also "run" the Twitter account for a website. So this service wants access to your twitter account before you use it. This is actually not unusual. So the only way to figure out if it costs anything is to authorize them. I will actually perform a public service and do this, but I can't for a few hours. Unless someone beats me to it before I come back.

OK, I guess we'll have to go back to the derail. Because although the service was open when I first looked about 5:00 PM Eastern Standard time, it is now closed. They have their 500 "Beta tester" accounts. So we have no way of knowing if it's free, or how it works. I did however give them an email address to be on a waiting list for when they're ready to open up more accounts.

The original owner of this account passed away in January of 2013. He left it to his aunt, who was not interested in using it. I purchased it sometime in September of last year at a garage sale, as it was thrown in as part of a group of items including an Atari 2600 console, some Old Frothingslosh beer cans, an electronic fart generator, and a custom piglet bondage system with brass spikes and battery operated stimulator. It was supposed to hold the key to many treasures but I haven't found any yet.

Oh, just look around - this forum is filled with treasure. B) For example, look no further than your name - a real treasure!

Better recheck. It's still Eastern Daylight Savings Time, so maybe you've got an extra hour to sign up. :yikes:

Perhaps you can start a new thread (or I suppose this one has been converted anyway) and give us a bit more information here.

We would like to all share in a proper memorial for this person but it's hard to when we have no idea what you're talking about. We have many among us who undoubtably know this person and many may have cared about him. Why the secrecy?

What was the purpose of that post?

If your post was to share grieving, then let others share the grieving.

The ancient Greeks said that as long as someone's name was mentioned, they lived on..

No answer was the reply - but sadly, that's not unusual

I had a near-death experience which changed my life forever. I decided to go horseback riding one day. Everything was going fine until the horse started bouncing out of control. I tried with all my might to hang on, but was thrown off. Just when things could not possibly get any worse, my foot became caught in the stirrup. When this happened, I landed head-first to the ground. My head continued to bounce harder as the horse would not stop or even slow down. Just as I was giving up hope and losing consciousness ... a thoughtful K-Mart manager came out and pulled the plug.

... keeping opion to thine own self...

Hmmmm.... that's not what you said yesterday.... strange happenings are afoot...

Nothing strange. In this particular subject matter my opinion is considered to be biased regardless of whether or not it has merit. If I decide to express my opinion it will have to be via contact@geocaching.com.

Isn't everyone's opinion biased? Isn't that what an opinion is - a bias in some direction or another? I mean - doesn't the holding of an opinion fundamentally require bias? Censoring bias seems, well, kinda biased

Wonder if this was what gave rise to Keystone's post?

Possible, although I don't understand the reasoning behind the rather bizarre thread derail, and the secrecy and then silence.

Whether that's it or not, RIP Ernie, sounds like he was a great man.

I heard of him because of one of the caches he created.

He does sounds like great guy to have around.

The reviewer community learned yesterday about Lindinis' passing - the second current or retired reviewer to leave us within a month. Many other geocachers have also passed on in this timeframe, I am sure.

If you wish to honor Lindinis' memory, I would suggest posting in the linked thread rather than in this one.

Yes, this thread should only be about the Internet service called LIVESON.

Ah, my mistake.

I thought that would be okay here, since you brought up the topic.

BTW, just what topic did you bring up? You kind of dropped a bomb here about someone dying and then left us all to wonder who, since many of us know many reviewers.

Kind of like telling someone that someone at their job or school just died and then refusing to tell them who. Kinda strange.

With that kind of an entry it is not surprising that the topic stayed at what you changed it to.

I think we need a little leeway here, along with a little more information.

Looks like someone would close this thread since it was killed early on.

Maybe it depends on who does the killing......and how it's done. Dropping a bomb, then leaving things in a vacuum may be acceptable in this thread. To agree with Sol seaker, it would be appreciated by many to name the subject of the derailing post to this thread.
