New cache series: Kokanee Quest

Looking for a new cache series to do in the Puget Sound area now that the weather's shutting down the mountains? Need another pathtag?

Then I have good news: The Kokanee Quest launches this Friday, Nov. 13 (yep, really) - nine caches that highlight local creeks critical to the kokanee salmon and educate you about this rare freshwater fish. It's sponsored by a consortium of agencies and nonprofits led by King County and the US Fish & Wildlife Service. Yours truly is the project manager and cache owner for the series.

You can download the passport here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/24988533/%20KQ-Passport-final.pdf

And here's a peek at the pathtag (which unfortunately won't be here till end of November):

 Thanks for the heads up.

Now if I can just find the time to get it done before all Tags are gone.

Well, there are only 9 caches and they are all in the Lake Sammamish area - there's a map with the passport. So if you can just come down from the mountains, you can get 'er done. :P

<_< OK... Printed the Passport but have not seen the Cache pop up yet.

The caches went live at 9:00 am on Friday. About a dozen cachers braved the constant downpour to get them. Here's the bookmark list: https://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.aspx?guid=7a8c49fb-adfe-4545-aef8-39e690f66311

Also, there's an underwater Kokanee Cam in Ebright Creek where you can watch for migrating salmon. I saw one on Friday just hanging out in front of the camera! Kokanee Cam

And Sproutter saw two kokanee in Tibbetts Creek when he visited that cache.

Is this cache series still in effect? I tried to download the passport and got an error message which made me think maybe not? I took my mom for a ranger-led walk at Lewis Creek Park and he told us about it :)

Thanks for asking! Yes, this series will continue through at least Sept. 30, and there are plenty of pathtags still available.

I just tried the passport link on one of the cache pages, and it worked fine for me.

Here it is, just in case: http://www.govlink.org/kokanee-quest/pdf/kokanee-geocache-passport.pdf
