+brutemus1
I posted this in the SW forum but I don't think many people are active in that forum. I thought I might get a response here. I am going to the Big Island this year. I searched and there are caches here. I will only be there for a few days and I want to look for the best caches. Caches that are challenging or take me to beautiful spot. I don't particularly like micro or nano caches. Have you been here or to another island of Hawaii? What were your favorites? +The_Incredibles_
Take a look at this. I did a search in that area and sorted by favorite points. I do this sort of thing anytime I travel. The easiest way to do it is to pick a geocache in the center of the area you'll be, search by its latitude/longitude, then sort by favorites. +BBWolf+3Pigs
There's a Facebook Group call "Hawaii Geohana". They are a friendly bunch! Quote Link to comment
+Michaelcycle
A couple days on the Big Island is not enough to scratch the surface, they don't call it the "Big" island for nothing. Probably best to pick one area or event and plan for that rather than trying to cover a lot of ground. For me the most interesting part of Hawai'i is Volcanoes National Park. There are a number of good earthcaches there and you can see the sights at the same time. Our favorite cache on the island, though, is GC3D6D a webcam at the top of Mauna Kea. You will need a whole day, a 4WD and you should dress for nearly 14,000' amsl: You don't get to look down at clouds too often This and hiking the crater at Haleakala (Maui) are as close as I am ever going to get to an other-worldly landscape.
