+CanyonWildcat
I'm an experienced geocacher and figured it was about time I tried a Wherigo cache. I've got the app and have downloaded some cartridges. Supposedly the "Wherigo Player Tutorial" cartridge can be played anywhere, so I wanted to give it a try. I start playing, got the space suit from the inventory and then I'm directed to walk 50 meters. After I've done that, I check the map and it shows the rocket is in Seattle and I'm in San Diego. I can't proceed any further because I'm too far away. My cell phone accuracy is 16 feet, so that's not the problem. I'm hesitant to go out in the field and try another one, if I can't even make it through the tutorial. Anybody have any ideas on what's wrong or how I can get familiar with the app? Ranger Fox
I haven't heard that one before, which is saying a lot. Did you check the rocket's distance within the location menu? It's possible the map was never updated after the zone was moved close to where you are. (Then again, I was under the impression all zones were moved relative to the player's position when the cartridge started--I'm almost certain of that.) Try to play a more recent cartridge or another Play Anywhere one. It's possible it's just that cartridge that's the problem. A little tip: you can use Safari to download the cartridges and send them over to the app. Done that way, you can keep the browser on the page of the last cartridge you downloaded. I find that works better for what I'm doing, supposing I'm downloading all nearby cartridges. If you'd like to play around with the app the Wherigo Foundation is developing, ask charlenni for an invite (info here). It's pretty and we're working hard to get a solid release candidate out by the end of 2015. The player part seems fully functional. Try it and give us some feedback. Quote Link to comment
+CanyonWildcat
Thanks for the suggestions, Ranger Fox. Since my post, I was able to complete the cartridge. The solution was to ignore the map and just walk a little further. I thought I had gone 50 meters, but apparently I hadn't. After I had walked enough, I got the ringy-dingy of completion and the rest went smoothly. Tomorrow I'm going to try to do a Wherigo in the field. My fingers are crossed. Quote Link to comment
