+blackdog7
A quick question about publishing a Wherigo cache: Is it a requirement to have a physical container as the final stage of a Wherigo? I am moving soon and would like to publish a Wherigo here where we've lived for the last several years. I obviously cannot maintain a physical container from over 300 miles away, so I was thinking of using an Earthcache type of logging requirement. I looked through the guidelines but couldn't find anything about this. Quote Link to comment
Rock Chalk
A Wherigo does require a physical container. Perhaps you could find someone to maintain the container for you? Quote Link to comment
+blackdog7
A Wherigo does require a physical container. Perhaps you could find someone to maintain the container for you? I've considered that as an option also. If all else fails, I will go that route. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
+J Grouchy
Why would you publish a cache in a place where you won't be living soon? Why not wait until you move and publish a Wherigo in your new home town? Quote Link to comment
+tozainamboku
You can have a Wherigo without a cache. It just won't be listed on Geocaching.com as a Wherigo cache. Of course with a listing only on Wherigo.com, it could be that nobody will ever see your Wherigo or play your cartridge. My experience is that making a Wherigo cache doensn't get a whole lot more interest. If there are few Wherigo caches in the area, you might get a few geocachers who will do it in order get an icon or qualify for some challenge cache. Quote Link to comment
+Team Microdot
A Wherigo does not require a container. A Wherigo cache may require a container. Quote Link to comment
Rock Chalk
It didn't occur to me that someone would publish a Wherigo on Wherigo.com and not link it to a geocaching listing. My bad on that. But for the purposes of GC.com, a Wherigo-type cache requires a container. I'm pretty sure that's what the OP was getting at by asking about the possibility of a Earthcache-type logging requirement. +J Grouchy
In my opinion, the fact that this is on the Wherigo site and is completely serious makes me think that listing only on that site makes it kind of a joke: PocketPC? 2008? +Zepp914
I have the complete opposite question as the OP. Does a Wherigo require stages at all? I thought the idea was to go from zone to zone and have the GPS act as proof you were there. I tried one the other day that just asked me questions and then gave me coordinates. I didn't even leave the house. Quote Link to comment
