Difference between ios and andriod?

hi,

I started last week with geocaching.

My friend told me about it, we went out to search a cache near our home with his andriod smartphone.

We found it and logged it on his device.

I went home and downloaded the app in my iphone.

I wanted to log the same cache as found but i couldn't... It was premium for me...

So i searched on the internet and found out that both iphone and andriod were able to see caches to a max of 1,5 difficulty.

So is there a reason/explanation why it isn't premium on my friend andriod devices and it is premium on my iphone?

Another thing we noticed was when we were looking for caches to do that there were a few(premiums and freemiums) that were visible on my iphone but my friend couldn't see on his andriod.

Thanks in advance,

For one thing... your friend probably has Premium Membership @ geocaching.com. It has nothing to do with the app.

There are two (Official Groundspeak) geocaching apps, for both the iphone and the android.

One is the full (paid) app, the other is the (free) Intro-app. There is no Premium app.

The full-app, will show more caches than will the Intro-app. This is because the Intro-app is something to only provide a "taste" of geocaching -- having limits to what it can or will do/show.

User membership status is the key regarding Premium Member Only geocaches --

If the user is logged in as a PM, then they have access to PM caches.

If the user is logged in as a non-PM, they have no access to PM caches.

You sir, are not a Premium Member, you cannot view Premium Member Only (PMO) geocaches, through your membership.

Sounds complicated, but it isn't:

1] Intro-app is designed for raw "beginners";

2] Full app is designed as a do-it-all app;

3] Membership status determines whether or not one may/may not access PMO caches;

4] An app is a one-time acquisition (purchase) -- PM status is a subscription, not unlike a club membership -- along with a recurring fee to keep that membership active.

All of that, and a LOT more is explained in the Groundspeak Help Center: http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php

EDIT to add: If you go to the app store (through your iphone), search geocaching, you will find a goodly number of apps for geocaching. Two of those are Official Groundspeak geocaching apps, the Intro-app (free) and the paid app. The others are generally referred to as partner-apps, that is... they are in partnership with Groundspeak (the owner of geocaching.com).

I pretty sure he isnt paying for premium or stuff because he is still considering to make it a hobby.

But still, i can see more caches on my intro map then that he can see on his(i see more premium caches and free caches)

And he sees 1 premium as free -_-

And yeah i logg premiums via the site :P

Having taken your original statement regarding "premium" at face value, this last post made me look at your logged Finds (both you and your friend).

I'm not so sure that either of you are seeing Premium caches.

Although you say that you log Premiums via the site, you have not done so -- likewise, your friend has not logged any Premiums (It is pretty easy to guess who your friend is).

Perhaps you are confused as to just what a Premium (PMO) cache is....

Premium Member Only caches are identified (on the map) enclosed within a circle. Regular caches are enclosed within a square.

Puzzle or Mystery caches are identified with a (?). They are not necessarily PMO caches.

I agree. Same here, thought one was a pm, the other not.

Looking at the friends profile, with neither of them premium members, there's probably some confusion on what is a pmo cache.

ETA: Not sure how it works anymore, as changes are made with little explanation, but could it be possible that one sees some the other doesn't based on their home location, or is it simply the different Operating Systems?
