I'm trying to add to the fun.

So i posted a cache... filled with all sorts of stuff.

But then i got a msg for a "volunteer" that said it was too close to a previous cache.

The previous cache is YEARS old... posted in like 2013.

How can i validate my cache without this "volunteer." in my way?

regards,

dan.

The existing, active cache is just 70 feet away from yours, and the minimum separation is 528 feet.

You could validate the cache "in your way" by not publishing it on Geocaching.com. But, if you want lots of people to find it, you will want to move your cache so that it meets the listing guidelines for this website.

As you now know, the age of another cache has no bearing on your cache placement.

Many people search for the oldest caches.

Often here, it's the older caches that take one to awesome views, or unique areas.

You simply need to abide by the 528' proximity guideline, as well as any others (like permission and maintenance) to place a cache.

Helpful information for hiding (and searching for) caches can be found in Geocaching 101, and the Help Center.

In addition to Keystone's guidance, I'll add that you would have had to ignore the following warning during the submission process (i.e. at the planning map stage):

That location is unavailable. Please select a location that's outside of a red circle.

If you see a warning like this during the submission process, it's very unlikely that your Listing will get Published.

Why would you think that matters? As long as it is still there, it is there and all newer caches (not just yours) have to be at least 528 feet away from it.

It might be a good idea for you to actually find some caches before you jump into hiding one.

It also would be a good idea for you to read up on the role of the volunteer reviewers, just so you know that they are an integral part of the hiding process and are not just getting in your way.

It's a stupid rule.

Because it's not there anymore, and it hasn't been there for YEARS. I'm trying to put something new, because there is nothing. But i got it kicked, because it's too close.

Find some caches... i've searched, and most of them are terrible. So i decided to hide my own. "integreal part of the hiding process"... now you sound like one of them.

I took a looks at the nearby Listing and can't seem to see what you're seeing. Found in March of this year with a quick TFTC, earlier in October of last year with "cache is in good shape". 3 DNF's prior to that, but it seems as though that got worked out in some way.

I'm not sure what to tell you. You ignored a warning on the submission process that your cache was too close. You checked a box on the submission page saying that you read the Guidelines.

Relocating your cache so that it complies with the "stupid rule" is the quickest way to get it Published. But if you'd rather complain, OK.

Sorry, but it really sounds like geocaching might not be the right hobby for you. You haven't found a cache yet, ignored the messages you got when trying to place a cache, lie about the near by cache and think the rules are stupid. That's a great way to introduce yourself to the geocaching community. If you want to back the attitude off quite a bit, and learn about the game, and appreciate hand heed the help you are given, you just might find it's a fun hobby.

I agree. I should go back to just hiking.

You kids have fun, i'm off.

No, it isn't.

Once upon a time, the guidelines included the rationale for the saturation limit, specifically, "to encourage you to seek out new places to hide caches rather than putting them in areas where caches already exist and to limit the number of caches hidden in a particular area".

It sounds like there are enough existing caches at that location. You should find a new place to hide caches.
