I am referring to the trolls and every few days I find the cache in a nearby river and a similar one in its place.

That sounds odd.

There is nothing in the logs to indicate that someone couldn't find it and put another one in its place (a "throwdown").

I could understand if you were finding the cache in the river, due to nature (wind or critters), but I'm confused as to how you are finding a "similar one" in its place.

Not sure how you have secured it in its location, but perhaps you might change the method.

That's Weird...

Did you notice a "similar" container near the area when you placed yours?

A hide from another site at the same location seems slim.

Only one DNF, but no NM or OM, so folks are finding it.

- Guess you're replacing it in-between finds, which seems even more odd.

If possible, I'd move it away 50' or so, and see if it's still happening.

Um, how exactly did you notice that "the trolls" was in the river? How far away is the "nearby" river?

(We have to gather the facts before we begin to get an idea about the suspect or how to prevent future problems. But we're sharp - no question about that! If anyone can solve this, this group can.)

I've answered my own questions, so let's review. The cache is pretty secluded and GZ is apparently not visible from Medina church or the businesses. However, it's close to the path. It also appears to be situated on higher terrain than what you call a river and I call a creek. Therefore it could have washed downhill in a storm if it became dislodged.

And as the storm whipped by, it replaced the container with one just like it?

No, the next helpful Cacher did that.

Curious, how many times has this happened?

Logs don't show a throwdown, and I'd be really surprised if a few cachers are walking around with containers on them. :)

Either dartfro9 is busy, or we're more interested in solving this than he or she.

The cache is located in a small a cubbyhole created by bridge and there is no log sheet in the cache that has been put in it's place

The important details are coming out soooooo slooooowly!

So we can't be sure whether it's a fluke (anything can happen once, maybe twice), a prank, a muggling, intentional harm, etc. :yikes:

This band of forum detectives is left with nothing to do but have donuts and coffee - all day and all night! :D
