+DragonsWest
Clearly this was meant for others and was accidentally cc'd to me as well. I've held a few this year already, even if the Somewhere East of Java series is loosely based on the theme. Trying to figure out what to do with Sept 19th this year as it falls on a Tuesday. May just yo-ho-ho it anyways, there's always a scupper in need o' have a skalaway thrown in to it. ox)P-) Quote Link to comment

Geocaching.com's summer promotion has a pirate theme, so they sent this email to everyone. Quote Link to comment

I see a lot of these Mary Kerry or something events popping up and these Pirates Life promotions. My pirate thing will be in high gear in Septembarrr. Quote Link to comment

I have been thinking about having a pirate event on the water - taking the kayak out near to where I have a pirate themed cache, hoisting the Jolly Roger, and seeing if anyone else makes it that way. The tides look favorable for the 17th - it might be close enough to give people practice in pirate talk. Maybe. Quote Link to comment
+hzoi
Ah, yes. Talk like a Pirate Day. I remember when that was funny. Quote Link to comment

I know that for me, when think of Pirates, the first country I think of is Canada. I saw an event posted the other day called "CanoeDa" . It's an on water event for the Canada Souvenir promotion that recognizes the Canoe as something one associates with Canada. Did you know that in the UK, what we in the US call a sea kayak they call a canoe and what we call a canoe is called a Canadian Canoe. Whitewater kayaks are still called kayaks. Quote Link to comment

Getting off topic here.. but the closest are scones. Scones are generally sweet, but there do exist "savory scones". Quote Link to comment

Just returned from the US and I saw bicuits at breakfast and they looked like scones. We have a Canadian canoe and had some rels visiting from Canada who said they call them Indian canoes. To me, canoes are paddled with a single blade paddle and kayaks use a two bladed paddle. Quote Link to comment

However, in some places the use of a single person light weight canoe are common and are typically paddled with a two bladed paddle. Quote Link to comment
