sheldore001
Hello everyone, im new to geo caching I haven't even been on my first cache hunt yet, but I was introduced to it by my girlfriends brother who does it, so I downloaded the app onto my phone and what I noticed was that the geo caches that are listed on the app aren't all the same as on the websites map, in other words when I checked the websites map I saw there was a geocache 2 building down from where I work HOWEVER when I check on my phone that same geo cache is not listed, why is this? and how many other geo cache`s have I missed between the maps? anyhelp would be appreciated Quote Link to comment
RuideAlmeida
Hi, Maybe you have the Intro free app, that will show only easy Traditionals, close to you. It will miss all the hard Traditionals (high difficulty and terrain) and all the other types of caches (Multi, Puzzles, Letterbox, etc.). Quote Link to comment

I'm guessing it's the free INTRO app. This app limits which caches you are shown. Help Center - Apps http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.book&id=12 It doesn't matter if it's an iphone or an android...the free INTRO app has the same functionality. 2.2. What is the difference between the Geocaching Intro app for iPhone, the Pro app, and Geocaching Premium? http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=514 The free Intro app for iPhone is an introductory app. Basic members are served up 3 recommended traditional geocaches at a time. You will also receive 3 nearby geocaches, as indicated with the green circle icon. Geocaching Premium Membership offers the benefit of using the free Intro app to find all traditional geocaches. Premium Membership also allows you to take advantage of features like Pocket Queries, Premium Member Geocaches and Favorite Points. You can take advantage of these features on the website or the full version of the iPhone app. (Note: These features are not accessible in the Intro app.) The full version of the iPhone app (the "Pro" app) for $9.99 is perfect for those who want to explore all geocaching has to offer with their phone. It displays all geocache types, lets you see your Pocket Queries, allows you to save geocaches to an offline list and more. See our Feature Comparison chart for more detail. 1.15. iPhone app Feature Comparison http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=442 B. Quote Link to comment
+Chief301
As explained above, if you are using the free intro app, it selects caches for beginners based on certain criteria....low Difficulty and Terrain ratings, and only Traditional caches (no multis, puzzles, Virtuals, etc. Plus it only allows a certain number of caches per day (3, I think?). So no, you won't see all the caches out there with the free Intro app. As the name implies, it's only an introductory app, designed to just give you a taste of what Geocaching is. It is not designed to be a fully functional Geocaching tool. Quote Link to comment

jaypamo
Is there anywhere that lists the types of memberships? I kinda get what chief301 said. I have a windows phone(crap) I signed up for basic free. I get 3 in a 24 hour period. I need a little more than that. The only other option I see is too pay for premium which is 30 bucks a year. To steep for a beginner right now. I also seen another apps called "geocaching plus" and "geocaching pro"is that related to "geocaching live" or a third party app that will not link up? Thanks Edited September 9, 2014 by jaypamo Quote Link to comment
+Panther&Pine
The official app is 10$, one time payment as long as you keep the same platform. Quote Link to comment

Thanks There are only two types of membership..free basic membership and the $30 per year Premium membership. Them there are two versions of Groundspeak's official Geocaching app....the free "intro" version and the $10 paid or "Pro" version. Then there are a number of third-party apps of various prices. Be aware that paying for Premium membership does not give you any improved functionality in the Intro app. The paid app is a separate purchase from the Premium membership. Best bet for you right now would be to purchase the $10 Geocaching "Pro" app....you will be able to see all the caches available wherever you are (except for the ones designated Premium Member Only, which is a small percentage in most areas), and no restrictions on how many per day. Save the Premium membership for later. Edited September 9, 2014 by Chief301 Quote Link to comment
+Bear and Ragged
Membership. 1. Basic. (free) 2. Premium. $30 a year/$?? 3 monthly) Apps. 1. Trial/ Basic. (Free. shows 3 'Easy' traditional caches of 'larger' size, suitable for beginners) 2. Pro/ Full. ($10. One off payment. shows ALL types of caches -excluding Premium Members Only caches- no restriction on the number of caches it shows per day. You can be a Premium Member with either app. The Basic/Trial app will now show ALL traditional caches -including Premium Member caches, with no restriction on numbers per day. The Full/paid app will show ALL cache types, all sizes, including Premium Member caches. The full app is NOT free with Premium Membership. You have to pay for BOTH! All cache types: Traditional, Multi, Unknown/Puzzle, Virtuals, Earthcaches, etc. Edited September 9, 2014 by Bear and Ragged Quote Link to comment

Thanks Last I recall, you're correct. Unlike the other operating systems that others are referring, the Windows basic app is free, but to get the full app, you need to be a premium member. - Unfortunately for you, Windows is the only OS that works that way. Did not know this. Yes, it was pretty controversial when they changed that. The iPhone and Android versions allow you premium-member-limits (ie. basically unlimited) even if you're only a basic member. The Windows Phone version used to be like this, but when they made some changes to the API a few years ago, they changed it such that basic members are now limited to only 3 caches per 24 hour period.
