+larkspeed
I am totally new to geocaching. I guess I'm lucky as there are a lot around me of varying skill levels, size and type. I tried it with my phone at first but found the GPS to be lacking. Today I went out and bought a Garmin Etrex 10 and so far I am very happy with it. In the settings there is an option to use true north or magnetic north, which should I have it set to? Also any other advice you can offer on the best settings on this device would be greatly appreciated Quote Link to comment
+Touchstone
I have mine set for True North, although I'm not sure it makes any difference in terms of finding a cache. I think the only reason to choose one over the other is if your using a map in conjunction with your GPS and you want to have them oriented the same way when your reconciling features you see with what's on the map. +Bear and Ragged
If you've 'been playing' and clicking buttons, check it's still set to: Datum WGS-84 and Format HDD(D)° MM.MMM True or Magnetic doesn't make a lot of difference if you're heading to a cache. It does make a difference if you 'Project' a waypoint to a cache. Quote Link to comment
+larkspeed
just double checked and it was set to those, I actually did not change anything that I was not sure what it did. Quote Link to comment
