+Team Dutch-Ditch
This problem has so far managed to stump me. Some time ago, my brother's Garmin GPSmap 62s simply stopped communicating with his pc. Now, upon connecting the device, the computer will recognize that a device is being connected, but will not recognize the device itself, which will register as an unknown device. This problem exists on 2 different computers running Win7. Removing and reinstalling all Garmin software (BaseCamp, USB drivers, even the Communicator Plugin) has not helped. Trying to connect the device in mass storage mode doesn't work either. Obviously we have tried several usb cables to rule out that possible cause. We have managed to connect the device in mass storage to a Win8 machine. However, on that pc it is still not possible to get the device recognized by the Communicator Plugin through gc.com, nor with gsak or BaseCamp recognize the device. None of the computers have any problem what-so-ever in recognizing, and communicating with, a GPSmap 60CSx. Anyone here have any ideas? Quote Link to comment
+Mineral2
Just for fun... do you know anyone with a mac to try that out? Quote Link to comment
+BlackRose67
I've had that happen (corrupt GarminDevice.xml) with my eTrex 20. I simply ran the command line version of chkdsk in a Windows command window to fix it. Quote Link to comment
+Former Hawkeye
I'm having a similar problem with my GPSmap 62S and rebooting it did NOT fix the problem. I need non Geek language help, just nice easy steps. I have called Garmin and they blame geocaching, so I tried opencaching with the same results. I have the latest versions of plugin, but the device is not recognized. Using the firefox browser it says line 105 error. Suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
+PeoriaBill
Take a look at the following if you have not already done so: http://support.garmin.com/support/sw/supportPage/display?locale=en_US&topicIDs={159aaa00-b9cf-11de-73d6-000000000000} Sounds like some sort of driver problem if PC won't recognize the gps unit. There is a Garmin number to call for help also. Hope this helps. Quote Link to comment

Suddenly, and for no reason, my PC didn't recognize it. On the 62s, holding down the "up" arrow when the USB cable is attached will force the PC to recognize it. Regarding Windows 8 and especially IE 11, add geocaching.com to the browser's compatibility view list (under the browser's tools tab). I changed the cable on my eTrex 30 after a "forced" action and we're back to normal again. I hope it works for you. Quote Link to comment
+Former Hawkeye
I ended up calling Garmin and I tried ALL the simple solutions offered and nothing worked so then I called the next day, I was connected to a software specialist. This nice man (Darrell) told me he had NEVER seen a line 105 error. I gave him permission to take control of my computer (I do not have any sensitive material on this windows 7 computer). He was able to "FORCE" a connection between the Garmin plugin and the Garmin software. Both my GPS62s and Dakota 20 now accept data through my USB port. What was weird was both registrations were not showing either until the Garmin dashboard was checked. I'm much happier now! Quote Link to comment
+TexasWriter
I realize this thread is 10 months old, but I found it when I was trying to sort out why my Windows 7 laptop wouldn't "see" my Garmin 62S. I fiddled around and did almost everything listed above (including registry edits to remove Garmin entries), and in the end, it was a simple drive letter assignment conflict. I went into My Computer > Manage > Storage > Change Drive Letter and everything is working fine. +Cissy PSP
I just found this topic. For me, the problem started suddenly. My PC does recognize my 62s, but when I click on "Send to GPS", the geocache does not go thru. I have to click on "GPX". This brings up my GPSEasy software so I can "send" to my 62s. I shouldn't have to do this the long way. Does anyone know what is corrupted in my 62s? I have tried another cable. Didn't help. My old Garmin 60 CSx still works and will accept geocaches as it should. It's not paperless so I always use my 62s. Thanks for any help. Windows 10 P.S. I just got Win 10 and I am aware that Microsoft Edge doesn't work with the Garmin software plugin. So, I use Internet Explorer. Cissy Edited November 7, 2015 by Cissy PSP Quote Link to comment
+Cissy PSP
Thank you very much for the link. I missed it somehow. This solved the problem! yay! The 'send to' function requires Garmin Communicator to be installed. Note, as a NPAPI plug in, Communicator is being phased out by the various browsers so you will need shortly to copy/paste gpx files into your 62. biotrack
I have a 62 SC that went mad beeping and flashing "external power lost" and several other messages whenever I connected a USB cable. The unit is several years old when it started doing this. I deleted all the waypoints and tracks using the "delete all" option in the garmin GPS menu. Problem solved. The post suggesting erasing the GarminDevice.xml file made me try this, so thank you. I have also subsequently deleted the GarminDevice.xml for good measure. One more extreme option would be to delete a lot of files, remove the sd card and reset the unit or even remove the battery and let it "die" then restart from scratch (update the BIOS). I am glad I have not had to do this. So far my 62SC has been great. I now want one with connection to the Chinese & European satelites and an external aerial input option so I can work in more difficult locations. Quote Link to comment
