Garmin 62st logs

Recommended Posts

I am new to forums and gps units. I have been searching and do not see this problem asked before (I am sorry if it has been). In the logs, it does not show whether a log has been found or not. No symbol or word. The same for "dnf".."needs maintenance".... I was out caching one day and they appeared to my surprise. The next day they were gone. I think I don't have setup correctly because of what it shows. This is what it displays: DATE (the real date)>> username (the real name)>> EVERY COORDINATE displays the same: N 000(deg)00.000' E 000(deg)00.000' and ALL the distances are all 7400+ miles. It seems to me that I input the wrong info somewhere. Any help would be appreciated. I guess it's not a major problem but I sure would like to correct it.

I assume you have been using 'paperless' logging mode on your unit (found or not found or NM with possible comments)? If so, this information is stored on your unit in a file called geocache_visits.txt that can be directly uploaded to the site as 'field notes'. If you're not familiar with 'field notes' yet, let us know and that can be explained separately (though you can find it here >>> http://www.geocachin...fieldnotes.aspx and select the 'Garmin' tab). Meanwhile, on your PC, if you wish to view that information, plug your unit in and navigate to that file on your unit. It is in the 'Garmin' folder. It can be opened as a text file with your favorite text editor or word processor or whatever.

Thanks for the response. I do know about field notes, I have been using them. I am referring to the "show logs" on my 62st unit. Menu.>> view geocache>> show logs. If I could figure out how to post an image I can show you what I am seeing on my unit. I figured out how to take a screen capture but I don't know know how to post it. I tried clicking the "insert image" icon on the top of this menu but it just pops up http:// I don"t know what that means (well I know what it means, but what does that have to do with MY images in My Documents).

Should work like most of the recent Garmin units. Setup, Display, and Screen Capture set to "on". Quick tap of the power key serves as the screenshot button. *.bmp files wind up in folder \Garmin\scrn

Yeah, posting a pic here is a PITA. You can upload one to your profile and link to it here, or upload to some other off site server and link to it here. Little 1-page icon to the left of the 'envelope' in the edit bar when creating a message is "Insert image" where you get to add the URL.

How did you put that screenshot, of the compass, on the above post? I have screenshots on my computer that shows what I'm trying to explain. PITA good thing for urban dictionary, Got it. I tried to make it my avatar, couldn't even figure that out, but if you click on my avatar you should be able to see a screenshot of my problem.
