Why on me gps I can not see Description and hints?

Because you are a basic member, you cannot take the full *.gpx to your GPS, and you cannot create Pocket Query for your GPS, and you cannot use premium features of the API to get information for your GPS.

One of those methods will be needed to obtain the raw data for your GPS that will let you the additional details.

What kind of GPS are you using?

Why on me gps I can not see Description and hints? Itis saying I have to be Premium Member and go to geocaching.com/subs

Uh yup.

Description and hints are contained in gpx files. As a Basic Member, you can only download LOC files.

2.9. How do I download geocaches to my GPS device?

http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=532

Basic Members

Basic Members can download geocache information in the form of LOC files. This file type contains only general information: the geocache listing title, GC Code, and coordinates.

LOC files can be downloaded one at a time from geocache listings by clicking the "LOC Waypoint File", located under the geocache coordinates.

Up to twenty LOC files can be downloaded from a search results page, after entering in the required CAPTCHA. Check the box to the right of the listings you want, and then check the "Download Waypoints" button at the bottom of the search page.

Cache information can also be printed from each listing.

See the Resources page on Geocaching.com for software options that can help you manage .loc files.

Premium Members

Premium Members can download geocache information in the form of GPX files. This file type contains much of the listing information: the geocache title, description, public additional waypoints (such as parking coordinates), hints, and the most recent logs.

Premium members can download individual GPX files from geocache listings using the "GPX File" button, located under the geocache coordinates, or they can download groups of up to 1000 geocaches via Pocket Query (see related page below). Twenty logs will be included if a GPX file is downloaded from a listing; five logs if downloaded via Pocket Query.

Depending upon GPS unit, Premium Members may be able to send GPX files directly to their GPS unit. To do this, click the "Send to My GPS" button on each geocache listing page, or select the check box next to geocache listings on the right side of search pages and click "Send to My GPS" at the bottom of the search page.

If a geocache has hidden waypoints, geocache owners who download the GPX directly from the listing will receive these waypoints. No one except the owner receives hidden waypoints, and hidden waypoints will not be returned via pocket query.

Not exactly true.

When using the "Send to My GPS" feature from a cache listing, my Oregon 600 saves a GPX file, but it's not including description or hint, but cache size, terrain and difficulty are included.

The GPS only has the above information available in the GPX file, so no.

If I were a Premium Member (which I'm becoming shortly) the GPX file would have contained both cache description, hint and recent logs.

Which is what we have been saying from the beginning of this thread.

That if you have a gps that can do paperless caching and you are a Premium Member, then you would be using gpx files which contain more information than the loc files available to Basic Members.

We agree, except for your statement about the LOC files. GPX files are also available to non-Premium Members, and GPX files contain more information than LOC files, but they do not contain as much information as GPX files for Premium Members.

[...] GPX files are also available to non-Premium Members

That is NOT right. Actually the loc files where just delivered in a technical form as a gpx because the units only read gpx formated files.

We are talking here about content - not file tech specs. When someone talks about Gpx files, then it is always ment the full content gpx file for PMs.

What you are doing here is hairsplitting and not very helpful as it will confuse beginners without need.

I do not agree at all.

GPX files are available to non-Premium Members, see my examples above. You can call both LOC files if I so please, but it's wrong.

The GPX files in question contains more information than the LOC files, so it's not just LOC files in GPX format, which is really confusing to listen to.

GPX files have the possibility to contain a lot of information, some of which is not available to non-Premium Members. That's it.

So it is away for them to make alittle more $$ to say that i have to be Premium Membership. I have asked so more cacher's that are Premium Membership and running the same gps and the is the samething They are saying to.

1. I can barely understand what you're trying to say here.

2. Why is there such a huge resentment these dais about businesses actually making money? Groundspeak was not founded as a non-profit charity to provide the world with a game to play. They are a business. They operate to make a profit, as all businesses do. Unlike many businesses, you can make use of many of their services for free. You want advanced features, you pay extra. If Groundspeak never turned a profit they'd have gone out of business years ago, and then where would our little game be?
