Best place to release a TB?

We're very new to Geocaching, (actually, only started 9 days ago), and found our first TB in a GC while on holiday and brought it back to the other side of the country and are now looking to release it. We also have a TB of our own we plan on activating and releasing.

 

What makes a good drop GC for a trackable? What should we be looking for?

-Popularity?

-Frequency of visitors?

-Favourite points?

-Size?

-Other factors?

 

The TB we retrieved wanted to go to the Algarve and back to Oxford, it's close to being back in Oxford but only made it as far as Jersey. Contacted the owners to see if they wanted to retrieve it themselves before we send it on it's way, as that seemed good etiquette.

What makes a good drop GC for a trackable? What should we be looking for?

Look at previous finds (or be lucky and happen to discover a suitable cache). Select a cache that isn't being raided (it still remains nicely stocked with Swag), and has no mold or water inside. Maybe one that has a TB currently. But mainly it would be a cache where everything (TBs or Swag) is not vanishing, and that the TB logs are correct. If it has a lot of TBs listed that have not been there in a long time, skip that one. An ammo can or other suitably sized container is good, in case you need to drop a larger TB.

 

Where I live, I have a some caches in mind, that are safe for Trackables. The caches aren't super inaccessible, but also not the ones that all the neighbor kids play with. I only place 1 or 2 Trackables in any one cache. I just use one of that handful of go-to caches, when I need to place a TB, so there's no research needed anymore, they're known safe caches.

 

Maybe that plan provides the Trackables the best chance of being found and logged by a Geocacher.

That's a cool idea! I retrieved one of my Geocoins, after it went to Germany and returned. The owner of that Travel Bug you found may like the change to fix it up and place it again.

I try to make sure the cache has relatievely regular visits, so that the TB will move on. One of ours was recently left in a cache which is only visited about once a year, we were lucky enough to be able to retrieve it ourselfs.

 

One which has room, does not have moisture or other issues, and isnt a well muggled spot.

 

We have actually placed a few caches which we use for dropping of TB's as we know the security and cache aspects are suitable.
