Unable to load GPX files to Geosphere on an Iphone

Recommended Posts

I have read a number of posts regarding the import of GPX files into Geosphere on an Iphone. With one, there was a comment that there was a header issue. Others did not address the basic importing of data into geosphere. I don't use an Iphone or apple of any any sort; so I'm somewhat hamstrung in helping her.

Can anyone out there help, please Austpark

Geosphere is very flexible with importing data and gpx files. Pocket queries can be imported from the online profile tab. Pressing the gpx button on a cache page in safari will allow you to open the file and save it to an offline group in Geosphere. A zip file with a gpx (such that on the Groundspeak pocket query page) can also be imported from Safari in the same way - the app will unzip the file and import the gpx data. Geosphere will import files directly from Dropbox through the files tab. It will accept gpx files (zipped or unzipped) from any source - whether it be email or a file storage app. It can also import cache data through the live search (online tab) that can then be used offline or saved to a group for future use. It will import files through iTunes.

Once a gpx file is opened, it is inported to an offline group -a list of caches. I have several groups that I use for various purposes - solved puzzles, qualified challenges, earthcaches, caches for upcoming trips, must do caches, and the like. These can be chosen, filtered, merged, and managed at will through the offline filters tab. If there are imported caches that you want to exclude, the app has an internal ignore feature that is very handy.

Geosphere will also import graphics on cache pages for offline use. Check the settings menu to use or disable that. Once cache data is imported, the list can also be exported and shared with other devices, apps, or transferred to a handheld GPSr.

Make sure that the language fix in the Notes section has been applied.

The Geosphere support forums on the app's web site are monitored regularly by experienced users who are happy to answer specific questions. I have been using the app as a cache manager (a mini GSAK) since I first got an iPhone and have not found a better tool for use with this game. I can try to answer specific questions about any of the above if the person wants to email me through my profile.

Edited to note that the iTunes reference in my post above referred to transferring files to the iPhone from a computer using the iTunes file sharing for apps. The short answer is that as long as you can access a gpx file on your phone, Geosphere will import it either directly or through the iOS "open" functions.
