Hiding Souveniers

Just a question I was wondering about since I do it myself:

 

I like to show the more diffecult Souveniers on my Geocaching profile.

Like the country souveniers where I need to get to another country, and find a geocache there. Ofcourse the goal is to complete (for me) all the European souveniers.

Now I have a few different souveniers on my page that I like showing. On the other hand I also made all those for August 2013 "invisible" since they clutter up my page and I think there is nothing diffecult about finding a traditional on a random day.

 

Now I do plan on "showing" the last souvenier for August 2014, but all those other ones I will also "hide". I think the last souveniers is more a challange since some cache types are harder to find here (or I did them already).

 

Any other people around here who also try to "hide" certain type of souveniers, but who also try getting them (souveniers) at the same time?

Nope.

If we did a cache for the souvenir, my other 2/3rds is not hiding it.

She likes certain ones and if some don't fit (like the 31 days) we simply don't cache those days.

They're only "hidden" on your public profile and just faded a bit on your own page.

She thinks that looks ugly.

Yep. I've pretty much done the same thing. For the 31 souvenirs in August campaign last year I went caching 4-5 days that month. In those 4-5 days I geocached in 3 different U.S. State that I had not cache in before. I kept souvenirs for Missouri, Tennessee, and West Virginia but hid all the 31 days in August souvenir. I'll be doing the same thing this month and will add a souvenir for Texas. I'll also be cacheing in Mexico and Costa Rica but no souvenirs are available for those countries.

 

Getting all of the available souvenirs in Europe is a nice goal, especially if you're going to try and get all the German State souvenirs and counties in Ireland. I've got 7 souvenirs from Europe and I don't even live in Europe. I've also found caches in three European countries/territories that don't have souvenirs.

I also have that.

I went geocaching in Croatia, Slovenia & Bosnia and Herzegovina during my vacation. But no souveniers there as well. Oh well, at least I have been geocaching in those countries as well. So I can add them to my list. I don't know if I want to go for every German souvenier, since they are about the only European country that have so many. (Unfair to other countries who have none I still think.) I have one for Germany, so for me, then I got that country as well. I am sure I will get more since I am pasing by there every time I go on vacation.

We don't have a goal to complete all the European country souvenirs (although we're almost there), but we really do like these souvenirs for the countries and hope they will add lots more in the future.

 

Since we don't like souvenirs for challenges etc. we didn't go geocaching last year in August, except for International Geocaching Day (which has become a tradition with us). But still we were very glad Groundspeak afterwards listened to our request to be able to make the unwanted souvenirs invisible.

So this year we don't have to stop geocaching for a month, we just make the unwanted souvenirs invisible. Although I think the August challenge of this year is a lot better than the one from last year, it still isn't something that fits a souvenir, more something for a challenge cache. But that's just my opinion, apparently someone at headquarters feels souvenirs are the best means to get people outside to play this game this month.
