Editing a Track in Google Earth

I went out for a long caching hike today, about 11 miles. After hikes like that, I like to import the GPS track into Google Earth and look at all the stats. Unfortunately, since I had my Garmin Montana fired up when I left the hotel, it also captured the 10 mile drive to the trails.

I can't find a way to shorten the track. Deleting the points during the drive only does that... Simply deletes the points. It doesn't change the length of the track or any of the data.

In the future, I'll have to remember to reset the logging, but hopefully someone knows how I can edit what I've logged today.

Thanks!

Why not simply use BaseCamp for editing tracks? It even has an 'View in Google Earth' option!

I second this. I routinely use BaseCamp to capture, save or edit my tracks. When I also forget to either save the track or turn off the GPS after a hike, I just use the Scissors tool in BaseCamp to snip off the part where the hike ended and I started driving home. BaseCamp has a handy "view in Google Earth" menu option that sends whatever you have selected in BaseCamp to GE and then centers the screen on it.

Sometimes I do the reverse; draw a path in GE and save it. Import the path into BaseCamp and it becomes a track which I can edit and send to the handheld.
