HI

I finally took out my Garmin Legend ETrex HCx out after 4 or 5 years. I had only used it once or twice before. I must have already preloaded some geocaches within a 5 km range on it. I would like to start geocaching and and trying to add more geocaches further out. I can't figure out how to make that happen. I think I need to find or creat a gpx file ( because my gps is an older model) but I don't know or understand how to create one. Can someone help me?

Hi,

you can transfer the geocache using Garmin Basecamp (free). On Geocaching.com download the "LOC Waypoint file" and import it into Basecamp. Hook up your Legend to your computer, select the geocaches you want to put onto your device and use "Send to Device". They will now show up under Waypoints ("Find" --> "Waypoints"). Note that by default the list only shows the nearest waypoints, just press the Menu button (lowest on the left side of the device) and select "Find by Name". Now you have a full list of your Waypoints. If you want the cache to show up in the "Geocache" menu, all you have to do is change the symbol from the blue flag to the treasure chest. You can do that also in Basecamp by double clicking the cache and then choose a different symbol.

Have fun!
