+forlorne hope
Hey everyone, just wanted to quickly introduce myself. I first heard of geocaching years ago and thought it was one of the coolest things I'd heard of. But at the time GPS units were not very common yet and way expensive. This morning I downloaded the geocaching app on my iPhone and realized there are tons of caches within walking distance from where I work. So on my break, decided to walk down to the nearest one on the map and I found it, signed the log and now I'm hooked. I found a second one on my lunch break and called my wife to inform here that I will be dragging the family with me to try to find some around where we live this evening. I have three kids, one of them is a 6 yr old boy that has more energy than we know what to do with, I think this would be a fantastic and positive outlet for his crazy levels of energy. We enjoy taking lots of walks and hikes as a family and I think this will be a great way to enrich the experience and keep the kids interested for more than 15 minutes. Quote Link to comment

+Manville Possum
I went for a short hike with my wife yesterday, and when I got cell service on top of a bald I noticed that there was a geocache 1.10 mile away. My short hike was extended in search of a geocache. Welcome to the hobby. Quote Link to comment

+J Grouchy
Yeah...I kind of started that way. I was sitting in a Chipotle on my lunch hour and opened up the app I'd downloaded months earlier but never used. I noticed there was a cache showing only a few hundred feet away, so I finished eating and walked over. Took me a couple minutes, but once I found it I was hooked. In retrospect, it would normally be a fairly easy find (a metal junction box magnetically attached to the underside of a metal stair), but I felt like I'd stumbled onto a secret hidden world and knew I'd want to keep doing it.
