+Touchstone
Am I allowed to leave URLs or names of websites where I got pictures, information, etc. from on my geocache page? URL's generally must conform with one of the following: From the Guidelines: Cache listings perceived to be posted for religious, political, charitable or social agendas are not permitted. A link to a website that promotes an Agenda, would more than likely not be allowed. It contains links to businesses, agencies, commercial advertisers, charities, or political or social agendas. A link to a commercial website or a website that solicits for donations would more than likely not be allowed. There are a few other examples that are not allowed, which are not specifically stated in the Guidelines. Things like websites that are viewed as direct competitors to geocaching.com, closed/restricted FB groups, and any links to websites that violate the TOU of the website (i.e. obscene, threatening, etc.). Yes, it's of supreme importance to keep GC as non-aligned as possible, because it's WAY too easy to have things slip into someone's camp, even by mere perception only, but I took the OP to mean that if he uses a picture from somewhere, can he include an attribution? So, if there's a picture from some company's website that says that it's OK to use it as long as you say where you got it (which is common practice), can you? If you get some info for your cache description from a Wikipedia page, can you say "This info came from Wikipedia", which is the honorable, non-plagiaristic thing to do? Wikipedia solicits for donations on their pages! Quote Link to comment
+Touchstone
Wikipedia is pretty ubiquitous on the site, so probably not going to raise too many eyebrows. There are probably a few wiki pages that would not be allowed based on the guidance from the Guidelines. Regarding images from company websites, it's likely that the image and credit would not be allowed if it was perceived as commercial. There's a Help Center article on the topic as well, if further clarification is required. Quote Link to comment
+hzoi
I use basic citation all the time to credit sources I used in researching and writing up our earthcaches. See here for an example. edit: so far the replies are pretty across the board. Perhaps you can help narrow the issue by telling us why you are asking. Is it for one of your caches? Did you have a question about someone else's use of crediting on their cache? Edited July 25, 2016 by hzoi Quote Link to comment
