Hi, I have recently attracted the attention of a cacher (ahem!) Who keeps logging dnf on one of my d thcaches looking on his profile he hasn't found anything at all, have checked my cache it's still there. Am worried that genuine catchers won't bother with the cache because he keeps logging dnf.

Advice please

Do you know the cacher concerned as the note you have put on the cache suggests you might? I would have just put a polite note stating that the cache is all present and correct although one of the DNF should be deleted as it seems to include an inappropriate comment!. If you have any further problems then report the account to Groundspeak immediately.

it is a very inappropriate comment. For some time now that word is thrown out there to reflect something that the person finds rubbish.

In this instance I would just delete all his logs. You're leaving is there to show that person they are disgusting. And you have also referenced them as a note. Thereby forcing you to leave their log as explanation for it.

However you are unfortunately condoning the comment by leaving it there and complaining about the repeated DNF instead. I know you're not but out of the two - the disgusting comment is the greater offence.

Below it the person who has three finds has referenced the cache with the log "G". This is short hand for the offending log. So I would delete both and all.

I would then make it premium members only forcing them to fork out for membership if they wish to locate it and of course you will need to hide it better and slightly move it. Else they may attend it and remove the cache as retribution for deleting thier logs.

But I'm surprised to you left it there to be honest. It's neither a good advert for you, or geocaching.

Hello AliJam - I strongly suggest that you delete your note, which includes a personal attack.

have checked my cache it's still there

Post an Owner Maintenance log for this, "have checked my cache it's still there".

A few dnfs by a novice are simply going to drop off the page. Problem solved.

I personally don't find any the logs offensive enough to delete as profanity, but if the last of them strikes you that way, you certainly can delete it.

Hello AliJam - I strongly suggest that you delete your note, which includes an unwarranted personal attack.

Check that the cache is present, and assuming it is, or that you fix it if isn't, the post a new log, I'd use Owner Maintenance for this; something like, "have checked cache and it is present".

A few dnfs by a novice are simply going to drop off the page. Problem solved.

I see from your profile that you are a Groundspeak reviewer - and your advice is "a few DNFs by a novice are simply going to drop off the page "problem solved"" remove note which contains an unsolicited attack ...

And the derogatory log by the novice? That's just problem solved is it?

As the cache owner, the first thing I would have done back on 6/29/2014 was delete two of the three text identical finds mistakenly left by the same cacher. I am not a fan of "sanitizing" cache pages simply to keep them looking pristine, but in this case a little cleanup is warranted. Delete ONE of the DNF'S from 3/13/2015. Delete the DNF from 3/30/15. Edit your NOTE to indicate that you have checked on the hide, and all is as it should be. The initial double DNF logging could have been an honest mistake. The followup inappropriate DNF comment might partly be the result of frustration. Perhaps the situation is not yet quite as bad as you fear. Give them another chance to be a better geo-citizen. At this point, at least don't fuel any fire with your own comments. Monitor the situation. Keep future responses appropriate and reasonable. The only actions that you have full control over are your own.

Deleting finds with only one letter of text is NOT reasonable (unless their geo-name is not on the cache log sheet). Deleting ALL of those DNF's is NOT reasonable. Suggesting that you (a non-Premium Member yourself) can make this a Premium Only Cache is NOT reasonable. If it becomes necessary, consider shutting down this cache, and replacing it with one that is a PUZZLE about Soccer. Good Luck.

Your personal preference isn't relevant I'm afraid. When giving advice as a person you are guided by your own personal moral compass.

When giving advice as a representative of grounspeak you will do so with the companies best interest first and foremost. The term in the log references a minority group. That should flag up to you as a potential issue immediately. Both morally and potentially legally and politically. When used in that context in the UK it is a derogatory term meaning rubbish/bad/negative.

Quite how that does not flag up to you as offensive or potentially offensive to anyone who may use geocaching is quite unfathomable to me.

Ok thanks for the advice folks, yes I did overreact but they hacked me off and I just thought how pathetic anyway deleted my log and his. I flit in and out of premier membership depending on the time of year, maybe I will make all the caches premier
