hello,

as a newby to geocachint, but very enthousiastic about it, i bought a garmin Oregon 450 beside my LG nexus 5 phone.

i have managed to ad gpx files from the geocaching.com site to my gps. but the appear as GC4XERV.GPX and not as there name.

could anybody tell me how i can resolve this problem? so i can see the names of the caches?

many thanx in advance.

For the record: i'm a basic member to the site...

The device will name the file as you input it. You are a Basic Member, not a Premium Member... you cannot download .gpx files as they are a Premium Member benefit.

If you selected [GPX file] as a download, that is why it added that extension (.GPX) behind the cache ID#.

You should use [send to My GPS].

I do not know if the data you added will be readable by the unit -- it may, but if so, it will be as a .loc file, providing only the coordinates and name or number of the cache.

On the Garmin, place the files into the folder [OR Drive]:/GARMIN/GPX

Select the "Geocaches" icon in the menu, then "Find Geocaches". They'll be listed with some basic info, regardless of the file names.

The filename doesn't actually matter. It can be named anything. It's the contents of the file that determines what the Oregon 450 displays.

With premium membership, if I use "Send to GPS", it also writes to my Oregon as GCxxxx.GPX. But I see the name, description, hint, logs, etc. because I have premium membership.
