Release Notes (Website only) - March 24, 2017

With this release we have improved access to Drafts on Geocaching.com.

A notification badge will now show on your profile when you have pending drafts. Additionally, the sidebar menu in your account page (Dashboard) will display the number of pending Drafts.

That's all fine, but I never use the Dashboard. Would it be possible to keep the old way, too?

Ie. have the notification on my profile page about pending drafts.

TIA

They are the same thing. The word 'Dashboard' got added to the 'My Profile' page.

OK, just not so prominent as before. But the yellow dot might be useful, once you figure out that it is not for a new message.

The yellow dot on the profile image is not self-explaining.I did not know what was happening. Hovered my mouse over the image to get an explanation but it only said "View your profile". Had to search on Google to get here.

So if you could just improve the profile image pop-up text from "View your profile" to "View your profile (+ you have 11 drafts)" (in my case) everybody would know what is going on.

Was there a change of heart about the yellow dot on the profile image? I no longer see a yellow dot next to my profile image, on either Firefox or Chrome. I did submit a few Field Notes today, but still have 30+ remaining.

Hi there! Thanks for letting us know, I would recommend clearing your browser cache - you should see the badge on the profile once again :)

Yep - still no yellow dot. I tried Firefox, Chrome, and IE. Not a big deal, as I can still see the Field Notes notification on my Dashboard page, but just figured I'd mention it. Maybe it's just me.

I've come across an issue with the new implementation of drafts. If this is a bit too tangential for the current release notes, I'm fine with a mod splitting this off into the Website bug forum.

In between finds yesterday, I stopped by one of my caches to check on it. I found that it was missing, so I brought up Cachly and submitted a Temporarily Disable log. I did not save it as a draft, but rather submitted it as an immediate log. At the end of the day, when I uploaded my geocache_visits.txt file from my Garmin Oregon 600 to the Drafts/Field Notes page, the only drafts that were shown were the ones after I had submitted the Disable log via the API.

Expected behaviour:

  1. Log some caches on my Garmin GPSr
  2. Submit a log from an API app (note: not a draft, but a full-fledged log)
  3. Log some more caches on my Garmin GPSr
  4. Upload the geocache_visits.txt file to the Drafts/Field Notes page
  5. All drafts since the last upload of the geocache_visits.txt file should be uploaded and available for conversion to logs

Actual behaviour:

  1. Log some caches on my Garmin GPSr
  2. Submit a log from an API app (note: not a draft, but a full-fledged log)
  3. Log some more caches on my Garmin GPSr
  4. Upload the geocache_visits.txt file to the Drafts/Field Notes page
  5. Only drafts since the time the API log in step 2. was submitted are available

In further testing, I've confirmed that submitting a log (not draft) of any log type from an API app (I tested with Cachly and Geocaching®) causes the "Ignore logs before..." timestamp to be updated to the time of that submission. As I've described above, this breaks the utility of the "Upload your drafts" page by preventing all expected drafts from being available.

Note, submitting a log through the website does not affect the "Ignore logs before..." timestamp.

Just discovered that you also changed the links of field notes (or drafs as you now call it) to postbacks. Making it impossible to open them in a new tab. This means I have to reload the field notes page each time I want to log another cache. Very annoying and time consuming (especially with a slow internet connection). Please revert this. (-1/2)
