+the4bucks
My old etrex 12 channel (think 2006) finally died after 10 good years. I need to replace it. I only use it for geocaching. Please help me decide between a used Summit HC, used Vista C, or new Etrex 10. Caching with my phone has me all over the place. I'm used to entering coordinated manually but am completely up for paperless caching. Thank you for your help as I"m overwhelmed. Edited May 2, 2016 by the4bucks Quote Link to comment
+cliptwings
You will get lots of opinions on this one! Here's mine. Sounds like you want to keep it cheap. If you want to stay with a Garmin (I would), I would go with the Etrex 10 at least. It's the cheapest new GPSr that offers paperless geocaching (a must-have for me!) and high-sensitivity antenna. 17th Street Camera out of NYC is selling them new (not refurbished) for $69.99 on Ebay. I picked one up just last week. If you can spring for a few more bucks, go with the Etrex 20 or 20X, which has a color display and a memory card slot for maps and geocaches. Here's a source for maps for the Etrex 10: http://www.gmaptool.eu/en/content/usa-osm-topo-routable Even though Garmin says you can't put maps on it, these work just fine for me. Quote Link to comment
+Red90
Etrex 10s are not 9 years old, so I'm wondering if you are mixing up models. They were released in 2011. Are you sure you have a 10? The Vista and Summit are very, very old models. They are also serial as well, IIRC, so that is a PITA. Quote Link to comment

You're right ... it's an old etrex 12 channel. I realize they are old models but I'm fine with simple devices as long as they work well. What does PITA mean? Quote Link to comment

It will be easier to work with and will do paperless caching. http://www.gpscity.com/garmin-etrex-10.html http://www.gpsnation.com/refurbished-garmin-etrex-10.html Quote Link to comment
