Its a memorial to Rural Postmen. Can't go in occupational memorials because it doesn't have a statue of a mailman. I don't think commercial commemorations because it doesn't have an anniversary involved.

Another I just translated and can't think of a place for, It is a field of white crosses, and the memorial says Crosses commemorate people who have died in accidents in South Iceland road between Reykjavík and Selfoss.

It was a really interesting spot to stop, and the verbiage was only in Icelandic so I didn't realize that it might be difficult to find a category for

I think this can go in occupational memorials, it requires a three dimensional human form. I think the relief is three dimensional.

Also could go in citizen memorial as they accept groups.

Look at citizen memorials to see it can be placed there.

Another is called the "German Memorial" http://blogtrotta.blogspot.com/2009/08/rural-iceland.html

"It commemorates a German fishing boat that was wrecked off the beach and was erected by the fishing company to thank the Icelanders who had risked their lives to save crew members"

This could probably go in at least two categories: Maritime Memorials and maybe Shipwrecks.

Let's not forget the Signs of History category for something that seems to fit nowhere else, as long as it has some historical detail to it.

This one is easy: Disasters Memorials (the same goes to the wreck you mentioned in another post)

Any idea, where would fit this kind of "wayside" dated stone? I found it on crossroad between fields.

Thank you ...

Where I live, official boundary marker stones are often dated. The higher the administrative division level, the more dates, but you can find some even on municipal level.

They look very similar than the one on your picture, but they usually have some identifier (first letter or coat of arms) on the respective sides, and I have never seen one with holes cut into it. Is or was there a border?

I forgot, you asked for a category.

You have to find out, what this stone really is. The only category I can think of, is European Historic Survey Stones, Monuments and Benchmarks. Maybe your find fits there.

Thank you for response and suggestion .. since I don't have a clue what this very old stone really represents, I will let it be for now ..
