Found cache but not the one I was looking for

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I was out yesterday geocaching with my son. We were looking for GC3WTNM, "First Date". While looking under some large rubble I found a cache in an old dry bag. It was NOT the cache I was looking for. The name of this mystery cache appears to be "Touch Me". The contents were dry. There is a log book and the last entry I saw was from 2008. I took a reading of N 48 45.228, W 122 29.857. We put it back where we found it.

My question is how can I research archived caches if all I have to go on is a cache name? I would like to try and contact the owner of this cache.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Take care,

Jeff, (bham geoguys)

The cache was archived in 2009. Sure wish the CO would have removed the trash, or repurposed the container.

To the OP: Log your find. Maybe the Cache Owner will try to re-enable the cache or be reminded to go get their container.

Yup... it's a smiley whether you intended to find it or not. Use the cache ID# linked above.

Logging an archived cache is fine... assuming that it is not LOCKED.

You could try going on Google and searching for the following:

site:geocaching.com/geocache "touch me"

That will work for most any cache where you know the name, but in this case, just click the link in the post by Moun10Bike.

Sure, I was just suggesting a solution to use in the future :)

If I found a cache archived 6 years ago but left in place (and with no newer signatures) I would take the container, but let the CO know. If they want it back I would be happy to return it, but my experience is that 99% of the time the CO doesn't care about getting it back - either they never bothered to try to retrieve it in the first place or had failed to find it and given it up as lost.
