Making a trackable bracelet

Recommended Posts

I'd like to make a bracelet for use as a wearable travel bug but am struggling to ‎find a supplier of a ID type plate as per the image below.

Any suggestions of where I could obtain one?

Preferably within the UK.

Or could I buy a dog tag and have the code etched onto a blank item purchased elsewhere?

Thanks.

Probably easier to get the number engraved/etched onto something.

Does need something like the scarab or 'G' so cachers recognize it as a trackable. Or you may have to keep shaking your wrist at them and saying "Want to Discover me?"

I did a quick search and didn't see that kind of plate either.

If your bracelet is to be hand made, you might consider using metal punches, and select an artistic shape that goes with the bracelet. A number and letter punch set would be kind of pricey for just one tag (maybe you can borrow someone's punch set? :anicute:). But I've seen these popping up in craft stores, they can be used for many projects, and should last for years. I've been eyeing a punch set to make TB replacement tags, and to punch my "ku" initials into Geocoins before releasing them into caches. You could practice with an engraving pen and see if free-hand engraving works, it might turn out well. Just some ideas.

Of course if you buy an engraveable tag (say, at a jeweler's), you can get it professionally engraved at a fee per letter, and for just one, it probably won't break the bank :anicute:. You might engrave just the tracking number from a TB you've purchased, no "barcode bug" or Travel Bug info needed. Just mention to cachers that the bracelet is trackable. Yeah, like "Bear and Ragged" said, shake your fist at people and yell "Hey, discover this!"

Thanks everyone for the advice.

I was going to purchase a dog tag and have it engraved with the number etc.

But I've managed via a geocaching supplier in the UK to have a bracelet plate made with a trackable number and logo of choice supplied by them. The best part is it they went via the approval process with Groundspeak so no issues for the future.

I'll update on what I've come up with later.
