zwvirtual
I bought a Garmin 2455 LMT and it appears that I can add gpx files to it. Does anyone know what folder I should add the gpx files to? And how do I find them on the unit to view them? zwvirtual Edited April 28, 2012 by zwvirtual Quote Link to comment
+Indotguy
I connect my Nuvi 1450 to the PC and copy the GPX file to the GPX folder on the Garmin drive. The files are displayed as Favorites on the Nuvi. Quote Link to comment
zwvirtual
I was able to find the files, but what is loading is the waypoint from the gpx file, not the actual track. I believe the gpx files contain waypoint and track information. Quote Link to comment

I believe the gpx files contain waypoint and track information. I'm not sure if any of the Nuvis support tracks. If you want to load geocaches onto the Nuvi, you need to load them as custom POI if you want description, hints, past logs and all the good stuff. Check out http://geocaching.totaltechworld.com/ for a description. I use it on my 2450LMT. Quote Link to comment
zwvirtual
You can't load tracks to your nuvi, well you can but your nuvi can't display them I was afraid of that. I found it will load waypoints, but I was really hoping to load some of my tracks for off roading. Thanks everyone for the help. Quote Link to comment
+EScout
If it is like earlier Nuvi models, there is one track file (and automatic archives of past tracks when the current file gets too big.) You cannot load individual track files and access them like a handheld GPSr. But you can modify the current track file and add to it so that you will see the blue line for all the track points in the file. +GeoYakr
I picked up a NUVI2455 and was able to load the geocaches as gpi file, but they are not using the traditional geocache icons nor do they display the name of a cache. I use GSAK for gpi/gpx file creation but have not really found how to get the right icon set or name display. I use the smart tags to create short ids (ie %dif1a/%ter1a-%con1-%smart) under 14 characters. Anyone find a successful solution? Note: I know about macros on GSAK. I am mainly looking for the configuration that produces a geocache icon (and/or just name if possible) on the map screen of the NUVI2455 so I can see caches as I drive. Quote Link to comment
+Red90
You can read Garmin's FAQ on custom POIs to understand how icons are associated if you really want to do it manually...... It is not hard. You can manage your own search and read if you want to do it. or you can use a macro that does it for you. http://gsak.net/board/index.php?showtopic=21209&st=0 Quote Link to comment

I did download and try the macro. I am not sure I am getting the desired reults. I can find the caches as a POI, ut they are not showing on the map as I drive. I am loading it to the POI folder in the NUVI2455. Using the standard tour. I was hoping for some screen shot of config that works for somebody using it on a 24xx . Quote Link to comment
+Chrysalides
I couldn't get them to display on the 3D map on my Nuvi either unless I'm zoomed all the way in. I think one zoom level out from that works as well. It used to work fine on my older Nuvi. Some days, I really hate Garmin. Quote Link to comment
+Chrysalides
Nuvis aren't meant to work with geocaches, that some can be made to do so the way you want and others not is hardly a Garmin issue It has nothing to do with geocaches. It has to do with POI. It just so happens that in this case, the POI is a geocache, but it could be anything. Why does POI shows up on some models but not on others at the same zoom setting? Why isn't there a setting for this? Garmin is being inconsistent here. I'd say it is entirely a Garmin issue. Quote Link to comment
+Chrysalides
Well that's like saying why do some cars have electronic starters and others use a key, or whatever. All Garmin models from the same series work in a similar fashion, some may have more capability than others depending on where in the series they sit. Different series often do things differently. Earlier nuvis for example couldn't show junction view, later ones do. Specs change ... as has been mentioned zoom levels at which POI (and favourites) show or don't show varies by series. As to why there isn't a setting for this, the vast majority of those who buy a Garmin GPS for their car simply want it to navigate for them. They also don't want the screen cluttered up with POIs/favourites. Those that want specific additional capability from any GPS need to do some research before they buy and not assume it'll do what they want. To do otherwise and simply expect it to do what an individual user wants is being unrealistic. What research? It is not specified in any documentation or release note. All Garmin says is "supports custom points of interest". You have to buy it and use it before you know what feature Garmin conveniently chose to change without mentioning it anywhere. I can see POI at the default zoom levels on my map with one model. I upgraded (because the battery is not user replaceable - I tried and I broke the antenna), and suddenly I can't see it any more unless I zoom in. Same POI file. I can't change the default zoom level. I can't change what zoom level POIs are visible at. I can't buy the older model any more because it has been discontinued. And this is OK? Do you work for Garmin? I take it that features change. They had MP3 playback in some models. They took it away. Then they added Audible. And then they took it away. I don't like it, but I understand and accept. Those are extra features, and it is clearly spelled out what models have it and what models don't. I'm not just hating on Garmin. I use and own many of their products. I just think that they're flawed, and can be improved. You probably don't want to hear my rant about all the idiotic user interface design decisions on my car's integrated navigation / entertainment console. People ask me why I use a Nuvi although my car has a built in navigation system. Quote Link to comment

+GeoYakr
I finally found a config that works. Shows geocache icon with default zoom. Here is where I saved them in the NUVI 2455 (POI Folder). Just showing default GPX contents FYI. A few notes: **I changed the icon to a JPG. the nuvi manual doesn't state it supports BMP. I know it may still work as BMP, but I feel better with it being JPG. **I don't care about audible alerts, so I think this config is not going to provide audible. Here is the Macro Config Hopefully this is helpful. I will keep experimenting. I would like to have a different naming scheme for non-physical caches (EC, Virtuals, CITO, etc), but I think that involves running the macro for each set of caches (unless somebody can explain otherwise). +Chrysalides
Audible refers to the player by audiobook service Audible (owned by Amazon). Thanks for the settings. I'll give it a try and see if it works on my 2460. Quote Link to comment
