Photo competition - March 2014 - Milestone caches

Recommended Posts

Many thanks to duncanhoyle choosing my picture as the winner of the February photo competition. I was only by chance that I'd taken a bridge related photo at a cache that month, but I wasn't really expecting to win when I posted it.

The theme for March is milestone cache. No,this isn't caches at roadside mileposts and markers, but cache finds where you brought up a personal milestone - e.g.your 1st find, your 100th, your first ever 5/5 D/T, the first find abroad, the first the kids made with you - you get the idea.

I've chosen this as I am due to bring up my 1000thcache tomorrow at this event cache.

The rules are:

1) The photo must be cache related and to do with a specific cache (any type including events), caching series or caching trip - please include a link to the cache orthe GC code so we can see where the picture relates to.

2) In your post, please explain the milestone the picture relates to and its significance for you.

3) Maximum of two photos per caching team or cacher

4) The winner each month is decided by the winner from the previous month - the new winner starting the thread for the subsequent month. They may set a theme if they wish.

5) Given the theme, the photo can be taken at any point through your caching history.

That's it - now it's over to you.

On route of Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate

This was the #300 milestone for my son xJammmzy, and the #200 milestone for gittuss who was on our team for that day. Photo was taken in March 2012, so James would of only been 12 years old at the time. I was impressed with how well he did, but even more impressed / surprised to meet an even younger Wizard's apprentice on our way back.

Can't say that it was definitely me who took the photo of James, it might well of been piddypug or billiethecat, but was found on James' phone after the adventure.

Did you apply some funky post-processing to that? It looks unreal, like an illustration in an old book, being a bit grainy and oversaturated. I like it.

I ran it through a photoshop plugin to pop out the colours. The original was a little washed out.

And the winner is - crochetlady. I've chosen her entry not so much for the photo itself, but for what it represents - sharing the game with others, particularly as a family, and persevering with the hunt and not giving up! I have often seen similar looks on my geokids' faces when they've been out and about with me on caching trips.

I have a photo of my daughter after finding her first not sure how to add the image.

Fantastic thank you she will be so pleased her photo won. I've got an idea for this months thread. Just going to scroll back an check I'm not duplicating a previous one.

Edited to add,

Is there a list of past competitions, don't seem to be able to go back very far.

There isn't a list that I know of.

If you use the white forum search box at the top of this thread (on my screen it's above the text 'read the forum guidelines' and enter the search string 'photo competition' you'll get a list of all past photo competition threads.

There's this, which I need to update ...
